I was unpleasant enough to have to encounter Dr Nelson twice as the on call doctor and both times were terrible experiences. She has the worst best side manner I have ever experienced. The nursing staff was clearly afraid to speak up or against her, and typically only spoke to me when she wasn’t in the room. After breaking my water and inducing, me she threatened to fly me to St. Louis and said I would have no choice in the matter. My sister/doula was verbally assaulted by her and my husband was completely ignored. There were times she would put gloves on, start opening sterile packages, and be pulling my bed sheet back before I would stop her to ask what she is doing or why! I complained to my actually doctor from Effingham OBGYN and HSHS hospital staff, who spoke with me specifically because I had such a terrible experience. Nothing has ever happened. I absolutely do not recommend Dr Nelson. To anyone. Ever!

Mildred was the on call doctor when we had our daughter in 2019. My daughter had a little trouble making it out and Dr. Mildred Nelson said our child was being retarded. I hate this word, it doesn’t need to be said and has no place in a delivery room. Our head nurse asked her what she said and she repeated it. St Anthony’s hospital was notified about the situation and I was told she would have a disciplinary action report on file for her. Seeing this page I’m guessing that never happened. I demanded a letter of apology, I have that letter as proof of the event. I have told the majority of the medical community in our area of this event and she has a reputation for doing these things. She also doesn’t break down the bed during birth, everything just pools on the bed. Zero stars is not an option but it should be

I started seeing her when she was at Christie Clinic in 1989. She delivered all 3 of my children and even did a few surgeries on me. I was so sad to see her go.

Dr. Nelson is an amazing person. She is the first doctor EVER to actually listen to MY thoughts and feelings about my health concerns, and also the first ever to treat my case individually and not like everyone elses. She does not waste time getting to the heart of the matter and takes immediate action on whatever needs to be done. I am very pleased to have her has my OB/GYN, and would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a new one. I only wish she could also be my family doctor as well. :)
