List of Irwin Benuck Md's Reviews
Dr. Benuck has a great way with children. He is smart , kind and a great diagnostic doctor. I would highly recommend him! My son is now 18. Irwin has been his doctor since he was a new born.
He is a wonderful doctor and very knowledgeable. He is great for routine and would trust him if my child needed more crucial medical attention.
While he may have thought he was doing the right thing the doctor ordered $1,400 worth of lab tests for my 10 year old daughter because she has high cholesterol. There was NOTHING else wrong with her and he never requested our permission nor told us he was going to order over a $1,000 worth of tests. We thought he was just going to do a cholesterol panel ($300). This is another example of the disconnect between what a Dr. asks for and the costs being passed along to the insurance company and the patient. At the very least he should have let us know and given us the choice of going forward or not.
Very patient and knowledgeable. He took his time answering our questions.
Dr. Benuck is wonderful! He just completed his term as President of the Illinois chapter of the AAP - so he always has inside knowledge on the inner workings of the AAP (when they're going to change dietary guidelines, where they stand on the issues, etc.). He's personable, thorough, and has a great relationship with his patients.
We came across Dr.Benuck when I was pregnant with my first in 08 and we lived in Chicago. He filled in as a guest speaker at a baby class we were taking at Northwestern. I fell in love with his ideas/thoughts/etc and insisted that hubby and I go interview him even though we'd already selected a different pediatrician and Dr. Benuck's office was a little further than we wanted. That was the best decision we've made. I LOVE Dr. Benuck, I wish he treated adults..lol. His staff is super nice, and his nurses are great with my kids.I'll be honest, I've only met his partners once each when my son was born they alternate which doc does the rounds at the hospital each day and I didn't really care for any of his colleagues, but I've never had a problem getting an appt with Dr. Benuck. We moved out to the suburbs before my second child was born and we were heartbroken that we were going to have to find a new pedi. My daughter was born at Lutheran General and after a week of turmoil was supposedly diagnosed with some aspiration problem and needed "special formula" and all other kinds or ridiculousness. When we got her home she cried all the time, it broke our hearts. We tried a pedi in the area that a friend recommended and he pretty much said, babies cry and that was that.We called Dr. Benuck's office and got an appt and piled into the car for the two hour drive to his office.Dr. Benuck was amazing with my daughter, correctly diagnosed her with acid reflux right away, changed her to normal formula, put her on Zantac and she's like another baby now! I called Dr.B crying to thank him after just 2 days it was amazing how much she'd changed.I just saw him last week for her follow up appt and sobbed as I thanked him and showed off my now smiley little girl, who gained 2 lbs in 3 weeks :D He was thrilled with her progress and even my son who had had to get his shots seemed happy to see Dr.B again. Is it going to be easy driving 2 hours for pedi appts? Not at all, but worth it. I cannot recommend him enough! He's been around long enough to know what's what but is very up on new medicine, new techniques, new studies. He never talks at you always to you and your little one and is always happy to explain anything. I've never felt rushed, he takes his time with each patient. Every time I've called for him he's called back within the hour or picked up immediately if available.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
