Highland Park Kellogg Cancer Center's Online Review Report Card

Stay away from Dr. Teresa Law! Her knowledge and expertise in the oncology department is below subpar to say the least. She does not understand the basic standard of care in the oncology industry. She makes up her own treatment practice that is not the industry standard and fails to take correct measures to address patient concerns, urgent care needs, and most of all, taking the right actions while ongoing treatment. She makes arbitrary decisions for patients with out taking everything into consideration. No backup plan, no urgency, and fake promises. There are far better hospitals places in Illinois with superior oncology treatments, teams, and doctors than Dr. Teresa Law at Northshore, now Endeavor. Stay away!

There were two people at the check-in so I didn’t have to wait.

My name is Rick and I brought my Mom, Patricia, in for her 4th of 4 chemo treatments yesterday. The entire team there is wonderful. We have been treated with perfect care every time. This time, Maria was our primary nurse. Maria has a delightful, calming manner. She helped ease our experience there, Maria, thanks for being awesome!

On July 27th, 2021 I had a bone marrow biopsy at Kellogg Cancer Center in Highland Park. I was there with my husband Ed and he was allowed to sit in with me when the nurse Margaret Keller came in to talk with us before the procedure. I explained to her that I have pain in my left hip due to sciatica and asked that the biopsy be performed in my right hip. I was concerned that the procedure, if done in my left hip could exacerbate the hip pain I experience on a daily basis. Margaret responded that "the room is set up to do the biopsy in the left hip", then assured me that "the sciatic nerve would not be affected". She then went on to say that "she's been doing this for a long time". I took her at her word and Ed left the room. I was instructed to lie on my stomach on the bed and she started numbing my left hip. The needles to numb the top skin caused no pain, however when she started to numb the skin closer to the bone I started to feel excruciating pain. The pain started at my hip and radiates down my left leg through my left foot. The pain was so bad I blacked out for a moment and then heard her ask me what I was feeling. I told her the pain was radiating down to my foot. Sensing my discomfort, she said she would have to switch and get the sample from my right hip. I said so much for it only taking 10 minutes! I then had to lie on my left hip and leg, which the pain was still radiating and now throbbing. She then started the procedure on my right hip from the beginning. When she got to the point where it was time to remove the bone marrow sample I heard her whisper something to the technician in the room and then loudly call for Dr. Hansen to come into the room and take over. Dr. Hansen came in and was able to quickly complete the biopsy. I was shaking uncontrollably afterward and couldn't get up to walk around and leave until 45 minutes later. I feel that if Nurse Keller had listened to me regarding my concerns about my left hip, the procedure would have been done and over with in the maximum 20 minutes I was told it would take. Moreover, with much less pain and anguish. I don't feel that I was heard and my concerns were dismissed. All that being said, Nurse Keller was very nice and seemed very sorry for what happened but it doesn't change the fact that she didn't take my concerns seriously and I'm in double the amount of pain. Dr. Hansen has been extremely helpful with answering the many questions I've had after the procedure. This is the only reason I'm giving my review 2 stars instead of 1 😠
