I was recently there with my father who was inpatient over night after a hospital procedure. My father has alzheimer’s and was very scared to be in the hospital. I was born at this hospital and have been there many times. I really had hoped they were as good as they used to be. My father is also pretty much deaf. One of the things we asked about was the TV remote, the speaker usually plays out of the remote. I was told it did not work and “welcome to Hinsdale Hospital”. I was with him for at least 3 hours in the room until I saw his nurse. I explained that my dad will not know how to press the button for the nurse when he has to go to the bathroom and if he does he can’t wait. I was told the bed alarm would go off and someone would be there to help him. So shortly after he told me he had to go to the bathroom we pressed the button. No response. Then he really had to go so i got him out of bed and walked him to the bathroom. The bed alarm was going off. We were done by the time someone came to the room. It was reported to me in the morning that my dad was up all night setting the alarm off and he was confused and agitated. More than anything in the world I wish my father did not have alzheimer’s. I wish he could hear and follow directions. However he can’t . I don’t know what I could have done different. My dad was a patient was I soup posed to stay there all night with him? He has a procedure coming up in a month. I don’t know if I should try another hospital.
