My experience was like no other, meaning excellent! I had a trimallor fracture of my left ankle and went to Edwards ER. They basically wrapped it and instructed me to call Dr. Toolan's office. Before I could even do that, he called me at home THAT EVENING to get additional information. He saw me the next day, as my pain was excruciating. He arranged a surgery THAT DAY AT Edwards where he did an initial surgery to align one of the broken bones, so the pain would not be as intolerable. My second surgery was scheduled a few days later in the Woodridge location, however, the day before surgery his office called to tell me my insurance was out of network for DULY. His AMAZING scheduler, then contacted my HMO and found out that the only location I could have the surgery, that accepted my insurance, was Edwards Hospital. Dr. Toolan rearranged his surgery schedule so he could perform my surgery as planned. I ended up staying two days at Edwards as it was a complicated break. Dr. Toolan visit

Dr. Toolan rearranged his surgery schedule so he could perform my surgery as planned. I ended up staying two days at Edwards as it was a complicated break. Dr. Toolan visited me each day to check in on pain, gave instructions to the nurse as to the elevation he wanted my leg, and took about 30 mins. to explain what he saw during the procedure. Dr. Toolan and his staff were amazing. Like no other!!!!!!
Went to see this doctor regardless of negative reviews. He was kind and welcoming. Did not seem rushed at all. I had an MRI that did not correspond with a physical exam and he explained that doing surgery when I'm not having the full symptoms of a completely torn ligament in my foot would leave me in no better shape than I am now so he gave me a couple of inserts to take pressure off of these tendons and I will follow up in a couple weeks. That was it. I appreciated his honesty and not being so anxious to get me under the knife and we are taking a conservative approach instead of just saying your tendon is ripped let's fix it. Thank you doctor.
Not very happy with my experience. Went in with an ankle sprain that happens a month ago. It was still hurting quite a bit with extending it and and bending it. He basically felt my foot gave me this look as if I was lying about my pain and everything I said. Felt blown off and judged. I’m a recovering addict. I don’t go to places to get meds I rarely go to doctors for that reason. But with this ankle I felt the need to have it checked. His conclusion was nothing basically and basically gave the same thing for my ankle I’ve been in for a month again and then shewed me away. I’m not happy at all. It’s like he didn’t even care for a second about my ankle and just judged me on my looks and past. I will be seeing a different doctor due to the fact that this pain is pretty intense especially when walking. I’ve NEVER felt so judged by a doctor in my life. Buddy I’m not lying I just want my ankle better so thank you so much for judging a book by its cover and giving me no whatsoever relief.
He spent almost no time with me and did a terrible job explaining what had happened to me and what the treatment would be. It felt like I was an inconvenience to him. When I brought what I thought may be a serious issue to his attention during my first visit, he brushed it off as a non-issue and told me that it wasn’t an issue. It sure felt like an issue at the time and I’m not a doctor. He didn’t even give me any advice on reaching out to him if the issue continued. A few weeks later I found out that the serious issue required me to go to the ER and put me in the intensive care unit for a few days. The serious issue had gotten worse and threatened my life. The doctors at the ER told me that I could have died from the issue if it went on much longer and that my life was still at risk. I wasn’t out of the woods just yet. I also learned that what I was experiencing during that first doctor visit was an extremely common sign of the condition I had.
He is not a good doctor. Performed a foot surgery on me that failed. Recommended additional surgery that I did not need. thank God I did not let him do that i’d be much worse off than I am. Very condescending. Got angry if I asked questions. Laughed when he looked at my x-ray and saw that the screw he had placed was cracked in half. I could go on and on.
After being told he was the best at Uof C I foolishly let him operate on me trice. He did more damage to my ankle then I previously had. He is the most arrogant person I ever met and I wish I could do to him what he did to me. It has been years since my last surgery and I am in pain 24/7 356 days a year. Terrible Dr. Terrible man!
It was recommended by my 2nd opinion to consult with a 3rd opinion on a possible surgical fix to the original surgery I had on my foot. I chose Dr. Toolan after several reviews of each foot doc at Elmhurst (and this took lots of time). Dr Toolan consulted with my 2nd opinion Dr and read my medical records prior to my visit but still wanted to hear, in my own words, the timeline from original surgery to what led me to him. He took notes, listened, examined my foot, read the x-rays his staff took and began to give me his accessmemt of my situation. He gave me two outcomes if he corrected the issues and when I asked he gave me his HONEST opinion. Even though, I didn't like the answer, we both agreed not to proceed with additional surgery. I give 4 stars because he is straight to the point, not a warm personality and you can't talk to the office only the hospital appt desk. I WOULD still recommend Dr. Toolan
Went to 3 doctors before seeing Dr. Toolan for my ankle. He knew exactly what was wrong and treated me and got me back in shape. He knows his stuff.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
