List of MIchael Hawkes Metcalf's Reviews
Excellent communication and genuine concern for my challenges
After having frustrations at another facility, a friend recommended Dr. Metcalf. I had the absolute best experience. I drove almost 2 hours for my visit and it was well worth it. He was kind and very understanding. Listened to my problems and very quickly came up with a treatment that works well for me. Highly recommended!
Dr. Metcalf did a great job repairing both bones in my lower leg. I do not even feel a change in the weather 20 years later!!!
Dr Metcalf performed shoulder joint replacement surgery on me in 2017 after a skiing accident. Another orthopedic surgeon in my hometown reviewed the X-rays layer and concluded that surgery was completely unnecessary. I have dealt with 3 more surgeries and years of physical therapy as a result. I can no longer golf or do yoga because of limited mobility in that shoulder. I cannot raise my and arm above shoulder height. My other surgeon claims that I would be 100% if Dr Metcalf had never touched my arm and just let my arm heal in a sling. This surgery forever changed my life. Beware of this doctor and get a second opinion.
My experience with Dr Metcalf and his office/ staff was excellent. Starting with the waiting time--I was in and out fairly quickly by comparison to other specialty doctors. The staff was kind and friendly. The first thing that impressed me with Dr Metcalf himself, was that as he came into exam room he immediately walked over, introduced himself and then sat next to me on exam table but positioned himself to look at me directly as we spoke. He listened to my concerns, asked and answered questions, and was kind and genuine. On the day of surgery, everyone that we came in contact with were very personable and professional. Everything was on schedule and ran just as he described. As he came in before surgery, he came in, sat down and visited with both my husband and myself. Very personable. His nurse was also great to take her time to make sure all procedures and post operative care were clear to us. I'm not sure what else I could share other than to say--I would recommend him in a heartbeat. I will add--he came so highly referred from my GP that he went so far to say (since he wasn't originally in my insurance network), that he personally would rather switch insurance companies or pay out of pocket to have Dr metcalf as his shoulder surgeon. I would concur.
Had over self analyzed what was to come. Very efficient staff and great doctor. I would recommend Dr. Metcalf to anyone with shoulder problems.
Not sure what these one-star out-of-state reveiwers are all about, but I had a great experience with Dr. Metcalf. I had a rotator cuff injury that would not heal from a skiing accident five years ago. He was the third doctor I had seen to get to the bottom of it. He quickly diagnosed the problem, said he thought I could probably resolve it with some PT, which he set me up for right away, gave me a steroid shot and sent me on my way. Yes, he's busy, as all docs are, but he was professional and friendly with me, he answered all my questions, and I appreciate his care.
Dr Metcalf did a hemi shoulder replacement surgery on me 3 years ago after breaking my humerus in a ski accident. That failed and he then did a total reverse replacement 6 months later. Both involved lots of pain and physical therapy. I have very limited use of that arm now. The worst part is that 2 other shoulder specialists have told me that I would be 100% fine right now if he hadn’t done any surgery ...
I just saw a 1 star review given to Dr Metcalf. Of course it is on Yelp and is the only review there. And of course, the complaints are always about feelings and never about results. For you feeling people...have you ever talked to someone that had a botched surgery by some nice average doctor? How did they "feel" about that? Have you ever seen in person the statue of "The David" or stood in the Sistene Chapel and looked up in amazement at the work of Michelangelo and wept as you took in the artistry and beauty of his work?Dr. Metcalf rebuilt my left shoulder after a skiing accident, 2 rotator cuff tendons and a detatched bicept tendon. I showed the surgical photos to some of my doctor friends...and they "felt" like weeping at his "artistry". It was beyond perfect, my shoulder is perfect. I am now back to see him again for my right shoulder...and understand this...Dr. Metcalf and his staff see and treat far more patients than they need to...because they do care...and if you are fortunate enough to get in and have your surgury performed by this modern day Michael "Angelo" Metcalf...thank your lucky stars...and thank every hard working member of his staff. C. Eric Towner
Dr. Metcalf is has performed three surgeries for me: a complete labrum tear (R shoulder), rotator cuff (L shoulder), and upper bicep detachment (also L shoulder). Although Dr. Metcalf didn't encourage me to have any of the procedures, I couldn't be happier with the outcome of each. And while I hope I never see Dr. Metcalf again, if I ever injure my shoulder again, he's the only doctor I trust implicitly, both in terms of his professional opinion and his surgical skills. Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
