List of James W. Maxey's Reviews
I was referred to him for an ankle injury where I was told there was nothing wrong with it. I waited a few months and saw him again telling him I was still in terrible pain. I asked for an Mri and he then tells me I’ve had 3 normal X-rays and it’s very unlikely that my insurance will cover an mri or that we will find anything wrong on the test anyway. He also had the nerve to ask if I’d be willing to pay out of pocket for this $2000 test, as if he’s the one that handles billing etc?.. He also said “it’s very common for a woman to have foot pain.” Okay, what??
Dr. Maxey is an excellent physician. He was sensitive, understanding and very informative. He met with me and explained my injury and what I should expect regarding pain and mobility. He and the staff at the Route 91 office were excellent. While I hope to never have another injury, I feel pleased to know that he is there for me and many other people.
I was lied to. I went to him for advice about my ankle. He told me I needed an ankle replacement and no one in Peoria does them. Well Thank God I got a second opinion!! I would not recommended this Dr. If he can’t be honest and give you the advice you need then stay away, Midwest Orthopedics has a surgeon that does ankle surgery.
Cannot agree more with other comments. Dr. Maxey may be a good surgeon, but nothing makes up for poor bedside manner & ignoring patient needs. I was treated for an ankle fracture. Doctor seemed to think there is no need for rehab other than "just walk" on it. Repeatedly states he has 35 years of experience. Who is he trying to impress? Will not listen to patient comments, documents you are doing well even when you are not. He seems concerned about his reputation, not his patient's condition. Plenty of other ortho surgeons out there. Choose someone with a pleasant demeanor & good surgical skills.
Dr. Maxey by far takes the cake for the worst human being I have ever encountered. He belittled me to the point that I went home and cried over his words. His bedside manner was the worst I have ever seen, especially from an OSF physician. But do not call him a doctor or else he will get angry and correct you that he is a surgeon. He through my own career in my face over my injury. His words were absolutely disgusting. Medically, he did nothing for me except tell me "your ankle is broken, but well it is, but it's off, so its not truly fractured". As someone with 3 prior full ankle reconstructions, he completely dismissed me as a patient and had the absolute worst communication skills. Do better OSF, that's not you.
I would say I was disappointed with the end plan of care for my injury, but I was too disguised by the lack of bed side manner to even focus on my injury. I'm not sure who let's this man think his arrogance is at all okay in the work force, but something needs to be done. After feeling more belittled than I ever have in my life by this man's words, I have continued to suffer from anxiety over how rude he was to me. I took the time to read ever review I could find on him, and I have found a plethora of patients who feel the exact same way I do. His horrid way with words should not be acceptable. I have read reviews that are over 10-15 years old, all stating the same thing. This man has absolutely horrid bed side manner. I am completely disappointed in OSF for allowing such a demeaning individual to work in their amazing facilities.
By far one of the worst "doctors" I have ever been subjected to in my life. While I'm not loosing sleep over his pompous attitude and lack of care or concern, someone might. Same yourself the trouble, headache and possible blood pressure rising trip- see someone else!
“Dr” Maxey is by far one of the most arrogant and rude medical staff I’ve yet to deal with. I was involved in a head on auto crash where my knees were injured. He did film and told me nothing was broken but failed to tell me there was other damage. According to a much better doctor, that inevitably helped me, if I would have been using crutches I could have avoided months of swelling, pain and possibly extended damage. Save yourself the time, effort and headache. Dr Maxey only cares about the CCofP crowd and his golf swing! Side note- it makes me feel so much better that I am not the only one that he made feel bad during a visit!
Dr Maxeywas friendlyand caring. Took his time with me. Explained every detail about my brace. I broke my arm and wrist. It is fine now. And since I have smashed my knee and have no doubt to see him again. Thank you Dr Maxey.
The guy is an idiot and has no compassion for the patient.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
