List of Raymond Smith's Reviews
I had a spiral fracture of my femur for 12 years after a head in car accident, and I endured 5 failed major surgeries from other doctors before I saw Dr. Smith. I liked him right away. He was respectful, caring, personable, and he did one operation on my femur, and it healed! I’m grateful to Dr. Smith forever! He’s a gentleman and a gifted surgeon, who treats the whole patient. The best!
Malcolm Smith is fantastic. Don't pay any attention to any of the unfavorable reviews here -- as you'll see all those unfavorable reviews amount to personal attacks and are related to allegations of a poor bedside manner. Dr. Smith repaired my elderly mom's trimalleolar fracture -- a very serious injury. The repair was superb despite the additional challenge posed by substantial osteoporosis. Dr. Smith was highly recommended by several ortho surgeons, including HSS-trained surgeons, who are friends of our family. While it may be true that Dr. Smith does not suffer fools lightly, I always found him to be fully attentive to the patient and family. Dr. Smith answered all of my technical questions and went as far as to go over imaging with me several times. As an accomplished trauma surgeon, this man handles the worst cases -- just the type of experience you want in an orthopaedic surgeon.
Dr Smith did an amazing job putting me back together after being crushed. He came highly recommended and is phenomenal at his job.
He is an excellent orthopedic surgeon. He took care of my mother's very complicated case when she broke her leg 18 years ago and helped me with my knee I broke two years ago. I have another injury and just heard he left MGH to go with UMASS Medical Memorial. He was tough with me as I wasn't doing what he told me to do. He tells you the way it is which could come off to others as hard but it was exactly what I needed to hear at that time to keep my healing going! He was responsive and diligent about my care. He was always professional and he came recommended by many outside of MGH in the orthopedics field. I would highly recommend Raymond Malcolm Smith.
This guy is a tool. MGH booted him. Absolutely toxic work environment. Morale killer. Drinks Nurse tears, kicks puppies on his days off. Again, this guy is a cancer on the rear end of Orthopedics. Also, his surgical skill completely matches his charm.
My visit was great. He listens, understands and is just plain genuine. Helped me find the right medication catered to me that were very inexpensive. We definitely recommend to anyone who is in need of a new primary care doctor
I FELT NEGLECTED, not receiving proper attention, and disregarded. If I'd had better care I wouldn't be with 10% of mobility in my shoulder. Even with a reverse shoulder replacement I will not gain a mobility that I need for work. The worst that happened is that no one is responsible. I got to MGH with the humerus fracture on Friday May 24 in the afternoon and they discharged me on Saturday morning with a diagnosis of Acute shoulder pain?????? I saw Dr Malcolm Smith after 10 days of my accidente only after going to the emergency room again, complaining of a terrible pain in my hand and shoulder. Poor bedside manner, and he doesn't listen to what you --the patient, say how or how you feel, he is the best in his mind.
Dr. Smith is an amazing surgeon and I feel very lucky to live in an area where he practices. After fracturing my tibial plateau and rupturing/tearing multiple ligaments during a ski accident (knee dislocation), he performed surgery and now, 6 months later, I am walking like nothing happened (I am over 50 yo). His manner may seem abrupt but he is British and really does care. The only issue that I had was his anti-pain medication stance. I needed medication beyond what he was willing to give (a couple of weeks post op), but he did work with me to try other pain remedies. I know this came from a place of him caring and not wanting me to get addicted, but if you have a low pain tolerance, and you are having a major surgery, talk to your PCP and/or get right on a pain management protocol so you don't suffer. Bad reviews about rudeness should be ignored. His personality isn't operating on you.

After fracturing my tibial plateau and rupturing/tearing multiple ligaments during a ski accident (knee dislocation), he performed surgery and now, 6 months later, I am walking like nothing happened (I am over 50 years of age). I still do not have an ACL and may or may not have this repaired in the future (Dr. Smith does not do this surgery or I would have him do it). His manner may seem abrupt but he is British so there's that... but he really does care. The only issue that I had was his anti-pain medication stance. I needed medication beyond what he was willing to give (a couple of weeks post op), but he did work with me to try many many other pain remedies. I know this came from a place of him caring and not wanting me to get addicted, but if you have a low pain tolerance as I do, and you are having a major surgery like I had, talk to your PCP and/or get right on a pain management protocol so you don't suffer. You have to realize that Dr. Smith deals with people who have had arms and legs torn off/blown off/crushed so if you expect to go in and be babied, you should reset your expectations. When I talked about 'when can I ski again' he said I would be lucky to walk, and he's right... I feel very blessed with his skillful work (and of course with the Man who gave him that ability). Always grateful.
Dr. Smith has operated twice on my left knee, and once on my right ankle. Having another ankle surgery in 4 months. All of these surgeries were for fractures. I would be honored to place my life in his hands,

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
