List of John Bulger's Reviews
This doctor had complete understanding and knowledge of the problem I was dealing with. The first doctor I visited miss diagnosed me, as did the second one. But Dr. Bulger understood the issue and gave me a surgery that was a total success.
Dr. Bulger operated successfully on me and helped my breasts look much better after cancer. He was courteous and had great knowledge of his field.
Do not use this doctor. He has zero bedside manner. In addition, he didn't address me when he walked into the room. He just opened my gown, looked st my right breast and said "that's capsular contracture (which 2 other plastic surgery confirmed it wasn't). My issue, was the left breast that had ruptured. Then, during my 12 minute appointment, he berated me, said I should just remove my implants....what did it matter? I was already married....I didn't get implants to please a man. I got them for me, to improve my appearance. I had extremely small breasts before implants. He also said he wouldn't bill me and 10 days later, received a bill from his office.
Service dates…July-December 2019 @ SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford, Il. As a tenured critical care nurse, I am very selective in determining what physicians I choose for my myself or my family. Prior to seeing Dr. Bulger, I solicited information from several of my medical peers, and I received very positive reviews from everyone…surgeons, operating room staff, recovery room staff, post-operative surgical nurses, and oncology staff. As a I newly diagnosed cancer patient in need of reconstructive surgery, I visited Dr. Bulger, and from my first visit I discovered him to be compassionate, kind, intelligent, and highly skilled. He treated me and my family with the utmost respect. His appropriate use of humor helped all of us through some difficult months. He always took time to make sure he thoroughly answered any questions or concerns that either I or my family had. His actions gave evidence that he strived to give me excellent care, and I feel he did exactly that.
Terrible! Dr. Bulger is an arrogant, condescending jerk who has no interest in the patient’s confusion/fear in hearing the word “cancer”. He may do well teaching a medical school course on how to act like God, but he needs to practice a little bit of compassion and at least pretend to care. He will NOT be performing the additional surgery my husband must have. If we hadn’t called him for biopsy results, I am not sure he would have ever called us. When there are caring, compassionate doctors out there, I don’t know why anyone should see this man. If we could rate him less than one star, we would.
My husband (patient) and I were treated with so little respect by this doctor. We were referred by another doctor concerned about an area on my husband’s face. When the doctor entered the room, I was essentially told to shut up as he demanded only my husband point out the area in question. On the extreme side of his face, my husband could not do that. The doctor asked if he couldn’t see since he couldn’t point it out. Continued to talk down to us in a rude, condescending manner. He was rude to his nurse. Used no sterile protective apron/scrubs to excise large, bloody skin from both sides of my husband’s face. When we returned to have stitches removed, he told us the results had been sent for a second opinion and said, “I have no idea what that means”. One week later we called HIM for biopsy results, and he said the results were actually in the week before (squamous cell carcinoma), but he didn’t have access to them! When was he going to call us ??? My husband asked his PCP for a referral to a doctor who cares about his patients. We just returned from a consultation and surgical schedule with a wonderful plastic surgeon. RUN, do not walk past Dr. Bulger. No one deserves his attitude.
I had a cancerous spot removed a few years ago, with Dr. Bulger. It was VERY painful, the shots, etc., and his bedside manner was very harsh. My cancer returned and I had it removed recently with a WONDERFUL surgeon, who was caring, compassionate, and I was not in pain at all. Why would you go to this Dr. when there are many thoughtful and skilled doctors out there?
This Dr has a very inflated ego. He does not explain the procedure or answer any questions.Spends as little time as possible with you. Have the feeling he is cutting corners with office supplies. Please try and research to find a different doctor.
dr bulger removed a cancerous lesion from my arm. as a nationally certified oncology nurse i knew what to look for in a surgeon for this procedure. he removed all the cancer, and the procedure and follow up recovery was painless. the best md for a serious problem.
A customer referred me to him. I had several issues. One issue he helped me with, but two others he said would be better with a different specialist (an eye doctor and a neurologist). He was right. Dr. Bulger is honest, compassionate and very good at his specialty. I recommend him highly.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
