James Fernandez Md's Online Review Report Card

I had a accident and since I have had LOUD ringing in my eats. I went to Dr. Fernandez and he let my husband go in the room with me. Dr Fernandez talked to me and ask me questions then checked my ears and saw no damage. Dr Fernandez sent me for a hearing test. Dr Fernandez called me to give me the hearing results. What a nice Doctors. He took time with me and answered questions my husband had. Dr Fernandez took time with us and did not just rush us. I will come back to Dr Fernandez for my hearing. I know you will have a great visit like we did. Great Doctor.

This is the most disorganized place. Staff does not even know that patients are waiting to be seen. I had accidentally injured my eardrum perforated. I had appointment at 3:30. I had to take a day off. I arrived at 3:10 and finished the paperwork and was told to take a seat and my name will be called. At around 3:45 I went up to the counter and asked them when will i be called. They went inside and came back and said the doctor had to leave on an Emergency. The staff was not monitoring the situation and did not know that I was waiting. Only when I showed my face at the window they found that the Doctor had left. I have ear pain and pus draining out and hole in the ear drum and they say they have an opening 1 week from now. PATHETIC, all should be fired, including the doctor.

Dr. Fernandez was my son's ENT. He performed ear tube surgery in April of 2016 due to chronic infections. At the time my son was 18m old. Surgery went well and his ear health was fine for nearly 2 years. In March of this year (2018), his left tube fell out. The infections soon followed, without any complaints from my son, and we ended up back in Fernandez' office seeking antibiotics in April. His ear drum ended up rupturing, and Fernandez sent us home with a Rx for antibiotics. Four days later, my son was lethargic, barely eating and drinking, and now experiencing vertigo. We thought something must not be right or hes got another infection elsewhere. So we took him into St. Louis Childrens hospital, where my son passed out in my arms needing an IV from his severe ear infection still. We found out that Dr. Fernandez prescribed him only half the dosage for his size and age, so the infection was just able to become more powerful than the low dose antibiotics. My only theory is that he prescribed him the dosage based on his weight at the time of his first surgery, and not his current weight/age. So after that huge mess up, we switched doctors. I tried to stick with STL Childrens, Cardinal Glennon accept our insurance. This morning, he went in for his second surgery. The new doctor replaced the right tube and added a left tube (remember it fell out in March). In the waiting room, the doctor comes out and tells us how surgery went. He did great, but she mentioned how the tube that was still in his right ear (From Fernandez), was a much bigger size tube than usual. So now here I am, super angry! First he gives him the wrong dosage but now I find out he put in much bigger tubes than necessary. Why?! My personal opinion is that him and his partner have such a monopoly serving a lower income group of people, in Madison county! Someone needs to know how negligent he has been!

I'm not sure how to rate this doctor. Dr. Fernandez requested an CT of my Neck and Chest. The report came back with detailed information of a tumor consistent with carcinoma on or around my vocal cords and recommended an MRI but he took another look at me with the scope , after he read that, and said he didn't see anything and "I'll see you in 6 mos". So, somebody is making a big mistake but I don't know who.

He is excellent at what he does. And knows his job well

I brought my then 15 month old daughter in to try and get to the bottom of her constant sinus infection/ear infection issues. Dr. Fernandez spent all of 30 seconds in the room with us. Never introduced himself when he walked in. Looked in both her ears briefly and said, "she's fine", then left. Never asked me why we were there. (his staff had taken notes, but he didn't talk to me about it at all). A year and a half later, tons of illnesses, delayed speech issues, multiple dr. visits, an allergist visit with allergy tests, and finally an ENT visit with a different doctor, and she is scheduled to have her enlarged adenoids removed.

Dr Fernandez was excellent. I had a procedure to drain my ear and put a tube in. He expained everything as he did it and I feel much better and I can hear again. Both he and Dr. Fierstein are excellent and the staff is very efficient and courteous.

Dr. Fernandez was very caring and personable. I never felt like he was in a hurry with me and always answered all of my questions.

very good doctor, but I have no medical insurance and his doctor visit price is way too expensive...
