Geoffery Engel's Online Review Report Card

I'm really surprised and disappointed with the low rating that Dr. Engel has here because he was the doctor who suggested (out of nowhere, really) that I get a PSA level done, back in the fall of 2019... After the results came back shockingly high, he did a biopsy, and I got the results back on December 31, 2019... Stage 2 Prostate Cancer. The pandemic literally stopped me from having prostatectomy, so I wound up getting a second opinion (about surgery VS. radiation therapy) and chose the latter. I am cancer free and still doing quad-monthly monitoring of my PSA with Dr. Engel. He's a bit of a character but he's been giving me great medical care.

I really felt Dr Engel listened to every word I said and evaluated my case in a full and professional manner. He also explained the treatments available and the reasons for choosing the recommended treatment.

I had a problem with urination, there was a blockage caused by prostate, I asked him to give me something to loosen up but he said there is nothing like that available. He only gave me the same pills that I was taking before. After a few visits and many tests I went to another doctor Sosenko , he gave me two other pills and the symptoms disappeared on the same day after one visit. I feel like a newborn I have no problems urinating , I have been sick for almost 10 years. also the nurse in dr Engel clinic who took the blood was very unpleasant.

I had a great experience visiting Dr. Engel. Great bedside manner. Quick and efficient. Also took me off life threatening medicine that no other urologist or doctor told me about. Now we are working together to try different medications for my chronic condition. 11/10!

Without a doubt, Dr. Engal was the rudest, most obnoxious physician I have ever been to. I went to him for a second opinion, and he just belittled me. However, I don’t believe Dr. Engal reflects upon the quality of the other physicians and healthcare professionals at Northwestern. I have been treated by doctors in the neurology department at Northwestern, and they were absolutely wonderful. I’m grateful now for the physician I’m seeing at the University of Chicago. Dr. Letco is a compassionate and dedicated physician. Dr. Engal could learn a lot from him.

I went to Dr. Engel to get a second opinion. From the moment he entered the door, he was rude, condescending, and dismissive. Every time I attempted to explain something to me he interrupted just to be dismissive of my questions and concerns. He is - by far - the worst doctor I have ever seen in my entire life. I’ve been to Northwestern to see a doctor in the neurology department, and he was absolutely wonderful. I am just upset that I put up with his rude behavior. He is awful!
