Jay Dutton's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Dutton is arrogant in how he talks to patients, and he also incorrectly diagnosed and improperly treated my sinus issues, which is a bit alarming and means I would not recommend him to others.

Doctor Dutton is truly amazing. I truly like going to see him. He has been treating my sinus for the last three years. He is very kind and truly cares about his patient's health. The staff in his office are also very kind. He truly is the best sinus specialist.

Literally one whole year after my consult I started receiving statements stating I owed them money even though I had insurance at the time, they confirmed via email that they accepted my insurance, and they also stated in an email that the consult will cost $200 out of pocket if insurance doesn’t cover it. Well, the statement they just sent me was for over $800 AND I just received a letter stating they sent my information to collections. I tried contacting the office several times but they dodged my calls and I sent the front desk girl, Brittany, and the insurance lady, Maria, emails to contact me, however; they have yet to respond. Ridiculous. Fraudulent.

Dr Dutton performed my septoplasty and rhinoplasty 6 months ago. I am still having trouble breathing and my nose looks deformed. I went to see him to voice my concerns. He told me I was making a big deal out of the look and it was only “slightly off”. He also said he doesn’t know why I still can’t breathe because I am “open”. That was it. Nothing more to examine or try to fix the problem. My nose is visibly crooked and my confidence is even worse than it was before the surgery. I am ver disappointed by his demeanor. I don’t think he really wanted to hear me because I am African American and he tone was very dismissive. I paid over 10k for all of this work and will now have to find another doctor for revision surgery.

I had a first time appointment at their Downers Grove location. Despite being in the middle of a pandemic with riding cases and a new variant of concern, the lady at the front desk wasn’t wearing a mask. If you’re high risk like me, do not go to this office. They clearly don’t care about everyone’s safety.

Dr. Dutton seems like a knowledgable doctor, but my experience as a whole could have been better. I had questions about the total out-of-pocket cost of the procedures and reached out for more info. They took 3 weeks to get back to me with 'answers'. I tried to see why the cost would be so much and was told that he/they did not want to fight with insurance over paying out. But when I called my insurance provider, they informed me that NO ONE from Dr. Dutton's office had even checked diagnostic codes to see if it would be covered. So no matter what the insurance would have paid, Dr. Dutton would have made well over 5000 dollars off of me. AS AN EXAMPLE: If the total cost was 15000, and insurance would have paid in full, then he still scalps an extra 5000 off me, on top of the insurance payout? Seems like this practice is more focused making money and protecting their bottom line than it is about helping people with legitimate medical concerns. And maybe I am wrong and simply do not understand the intricacies of medicine and insurance, but if that is the case, then they have a serious deficiency in their ability to explain WHY things are being handled the way they are. The staff as a whole was fairly cold and uncaring. They were unable to explain the steps necessary for a release of my medical information over the phone. Then when I went in to pick all of my scans, images, and charts, I was told that Dr. Dutton OWNS my images and they would not release them to me. I had to have them print out a copy of the signed documents allowing the practice to use my images for advertising and prove to them that NOWHERE in that document did I forfeit the rights to my likeness. And then, they said that I have to go back to pick up the pictures because they are printed and glued to cardboard sheets. SO THERE IS A PROCESS IN PLACE SINCE YOU PRINT THEM AND GLUE THEM TO CARDBOARD SHEETS SO WHY WAS IT SO DIFFICULT TO REQUEST THAT.Overall, this whole chapter in my medical journey has been nothing short of infuriating. I can't say whether the surgical work of Dr. Dutton is good or bad, but the peripherals of this practice leave a lot to be desired.

Not impressed. Would I return never. When I have to pay my co-pay I want to see my doctor not his assistant.

I recently had my lips done by Dr Dutton and I absolutely LOVE them! I have always been hesitant to get filler for fear of looking unnatural or "too plastic". I let him know that I wanted them to be full but subtle, and boy did he deliver! He was so sweet, professional, and has a gentle touch. Will be going back soon with my mom for some botox! Thanks so much!!

Do not him perform surgery on you. I paid him over $3000 up front for the cosmetic portion of my surgery and he did absolutely nothing that I wanted him to do. In fact, it looks much worse. My nose is crooked and one nostril flares out more than another. He also uses deceptive practices involving insurance. The office staff promised me that he was in my network. That was the only reason I agreed to let him operate on me. Following the surgery I found out he was not- then I was responsible for another large bill and a ugly, crooked nose. He has no bedside manner, is very arrogant and he often has you see his PA for return visits. I had a small septal perforation and he insults me by saying it was from doing too much cocaine. I've never done any drugs in my life! He might have been joking, but not funny! Do your research and stay away from this surgeon.

I have been to many ENT’S and I swear I have never gotten relief like I have gotten when seeing this dr. He knows what he is doing. He cares about your quality of life concerning your breathing and he’s exceptional when it comes to surgery! I had my first surgery in 2014 and just had another one on Feb. 27, 2020 but he made me aware right away that I would need another one, because the CT didn’t show how bad off I was the first time that he did surgery on me. Bottom line is, I don’t know what’s up with some of these negative reviews, and I’m not taking away from anyone’s bad experience, but HANDS DOWN!....... DR. Dutton is the best ENT ever! Literally both times after surgery I had no pain. I never give reviews but this one is over due.
