The Carle Foundation Hospital's Online Review Report Card

Billed completely wrong insurance for years even though I've had the same insurance for close to a decade. I never realized it until they left a summons in my door and now they say there's nothing they can do to fix it. what's the point of having insurance and showing you guys my insurance id cards when I go to appointment etc. if you wont update my file and bill correctly. now I owe you $2500 (most of which insurance would have covered had you billed them) because of your incompetence? What a scam. No wonder you guys have such poor reviews even though the doctors that work for this org are top notch.

Waiting for two hours in the ER now. E stands for emergency if you did not know. And it doesn’t seem busy at all.

The staff here was absolutely amazing... my friend son is there and in need of a kidney. He was having some complications and had coded 3 times. We had a nurse i nicknamed "nurse barbie" she was the cutest and sweetest person but she was good!!! After trying quite a few options she said something isnt right and got CCU team down immediately. We have nicknamed one of the doctors ... "the good doctor" he came down from CCU chewing his gum...walked over to the computer he was just clicking away talking and cracking jokes at the same time... then he got to making moves...still talking and cracking jokes... all of a sudden his blood pressure went from 216 to 150 something... "The Good Doctor" worked his magic

Drove 3 hours to see my 92 year old grandfather with my mother(his daughter). They would only let one person be with him. The guard at desk was was rude and had an attitude. Think hospital should change policy to at least 2 family members at a time.

Until 2017, I had many great experiences with Carle. Suddenly, I noticed my PCP retired, along with my kid’s ped, and they weren’t replaced with great physicians. One pediatrician didn’t even have a functional understanding of basic ADHD. An occupational therapist was prescribing exercises to my kid that, when I googled them, were complete bunk and had zero scientific evidence that the exercises would treat the issues my child was experiencing. From failed partnerships with community organizations, empty promises, and lack of staffing, Carle has proved to its community and its staff that its profit-driven, not care-driven. They are very sneaky and deceptive. They avoid paying property taxes, which burdens the community. They lie and say that they provide more value in community care than the value of property taxes, which is a ginormous falsehood. Carle doesn’t provide anything for free — the one place they excel is in their aggressive billing and collections tactics. They will harass you a week after an $18 bill was due, and they’ll call you at all times of day to get their $18 payment — which is almost always an insurance issue, leading Carle to refund patients years after the overpayment is resolved. A family member with a chronic illness had an emergency, and knowing he’d probably need emergency surgery, he refused to go to Carle. They flew to a southwest state, incurring risk with the flight because they knew he would be seen by competent staff. Yes, people are literally willing to fly to another state to receive emergency care before setting foot in Carle. Their nursing staff and some of their physicians are still trustworthy. I gave birth to my second child here. But our family has moved all of our care from Carle, following the lead of countless folks in CU who’ve had enough. This place is *TERRIBLE*. Yes, it used to be the best hospital in Central Illinois! And now I wouldn’t trust Carle to put a bandaid on my pinky toe.

The best hospital in the area, without a doubt

Charged us an insane amount for just a consultation on lip and tounge ties... will never recommend this place to anyone. The doctor didn't even do anything but look in my kids mouth and said "yeah they don't need anything done." Billing also told us that they do not negotiate bills whatsoever. Wish I could give this place zero stars. I can't imagine what they would've charged us if we needed the lip or tongue tie cut.

Carle has significantly gone downhill. Doctor/Nursing care is grossly substandard. The hospital is filled with arrogant unqualified so-called professionals, who just make things up as they go along. Then go out of their way to cover things up by using lies, red tape, and collusion to try and cover up errors, misdeeds, and mistreatment. Filing a formal complaint is a joke because the hospital is primarily physician owned. It's like the police policing their own. This facility is quite dangerous, due to their inexperience, bias, and uncaring staff.

Billing is a big joke and Patient Financial Services is very very rude! They do not really care about you and the person I spoke with really shouldn't be in customer service with that attitude!!!

This hospital has went downhill since last time I had to stay. The ER was not going through in order of check in but as they perceived as a priority. It took me over 3 hours to be seen. They told my daughter I was not a priority. I had a history of blood clots in the lungs and sure enough I had clots in both lungs. To top it off the staff thought that it was a good idea to put me in a room with a person that was suspected of a bacterial Staph infection and ended up testing positive for it. I am also questioning the cleanliness of the room when I look up and see dust on the ceiling. See picture. Come on Carle surely you can do better than this!
