This, being my initial visit with Dr. DeWald, I did not know what to expect. I soon found that he was very personable and, above all, displayed a very high level of expertise and professionalism. He was comfortable having both my son and daughter with me during the consult. Dr. DeWald took the time to present explanations, his opinions and my options while being open to any questions. Also important, he never rushed through this visit. He was great and instilled my confidence in him as the right doctor to perform my needed surgery.

I saw three Doctors who were honest and said my back condition was more than they felt they could help me with. The last doctor recommended Dr DeWald. After my first appointment with Dr DeWald I felt confident that he could help me. I am now 3 months post surgery and still healing from my surgery, but my original back pain is gone. Dr DeWald is the Best Back doctor around the Chicago land. He listens to what you have to say and reviews your previous charts. One of Dr DeWald’s biggest asset’s, to me, is not just wanting to operate on you. He works with you for the best solution for your specific issues. I would highly recommend him for a second opinion if another doctor is wanting operate on your back. If you have a back surgery you can’t take it back so make sure you are getting what you really need done.

Dr. Dewald is such a charismatic doctor and as a person. His experience in spinal orthopedic is unsurpassed. I’m so happy he did my son’s surgery. Excellent doctor I truly recommend him.

I guess I'm glad I forgot to write this review until over seven months after my spinal fusion surgery, because I can attest to being able to walk and stand, pain-free, after a year of debilitating back pain. I could hardly walk half a block before the surgery, and I recently hiked over three miles. Dr. DeWald is an exceptional surgeon, a great listener and a doctor who surrounds himself with a super team. Stephanie is an amazing physician's assistant. Everyone on his team is caring, friendly and responsive. I also loved being at Rush, where I received first-rate care.
