Everything from the very first appointment was perfect. Dr. Patel spoke with me during the initial meeting and clearly explained the entire process to me. He didn't rush, he listened and answered every single question with facts and even gave me stats on the usual recovery times and possible negative outcomes that I may experience. The surgery went exactly as planned with zero complications. My scaring is so minimal that you can barely tell that I had the surgery and I am only 4 weeks post! Dr. Patel is amazing and you are considering him for yourself, then trust me and go with him.

I can't say enough about Dr. Nikhil Patel. My husband was so sick and he has his life back. Dr. Patel did a two-step total colectomy/j-pouch creation and take down surgery a year ago and he has healed so quickly and had his life back within weeks of each surgery. Even his GI doc said he did an amazing job when he had a scope and he didn't need to be seen for 3 years unless he had any issues. Dr. Patel is patient and thoughtful in his explanations. He always checked in on my husband and took great care and time during appts and surgeries. I would recommend him to anyone needing a Colorectal surgeon! We can't thank Dr. Patel enough!

My negative experience with Dr. Patel is two-fold: Dr. Patel’s bedside manner is unprofessional, dismissive, and disrespectful. As someone who also works in the medical field, I was appalled by the way in which I was treated, especially with the sensitive nature of the conditions Dr. Patel treats. The biggest disappointment of all, was the outcome of my surgery Dr. Patel performed. I am still experiencing complications from the procedure, and will likely require another surgery in the future. Additionally, to round out my negative experience, while I was in post-op recovery his anesthesiologist, Dr. Stiles, stated to me, “That was a big procedure for Dr. Patel!” His comment was unprofessional and unnecessary, but confirmed that Dr. Patel doesn’t know his limitations and doesn’t know when to refer on to the appropriate provider. I do not recommend Dr. Patel’s services as a human who deserves respect or a patient who needs skilled medical care, you will not receive either.

I didn't have a good experience here, I'll explain my story and leave you to decide what you want about it. My physician was Dr. Patel. I'll start with the positive I believe Dr. Patel knows his stuff and is probably a very competent surgeon, that seems to be true. Most of these events are a year or two ago. I have chronic hemorrhoids, this is the third physician I've seen as I move a lot. I got along fine with the other two. From this point on I'm going to be somewhat specific medically, but I'll do my best not to be to gross...you've been warned. My first visits were ok, but I did recall two issues One he never really worked with me. Basically try and form a game plan, solve problems together. He would always say "it's different for everyone, you'll just have to see what works." Now, that may be true, but he never worked with me to *find* that something. Even when I'd report back he wouldn't suggest anything. I was basically on my own. What's the point of clinical experience if you don't use it at all? The physician I ended up switching to, helped me with this on my first visit. So it's not like this can't be done. Second the office. They don't seem to understand urgency with questions, if you have a question, expect 1-2 business days. I've rarely had a question for the doctor returned the same day, I've had requests get forgotten and had to call back like a week later at least twice, and the doctor will *never* answer you directly. Always a nurse, and always much later. I don't mind an office being slow, honestly it's a really tough job they have, but much like their doctor I never felt they were working with me. all that said, my main issue is after he performed a hemorrhoidectomy He gave basically no actionable dietary advice for the surgery and under his care I ended up having an almost unpassable stool post surgery. I spent days wondering what to do. It hurt very badly to try. Should I wait? Just commit? At 4 days these become important questions, I wanted some expert advice. It's a Sunday night and I caved and decided I needed help before Monday. That night I called their on call physician, Dr Pittman as I recall learning, their phone system was broken. I frantically called tons of numbers before some receptionist at the hospital that called the dr. directly to pass on my contact information and that the system was down. No one called me that night. I called the office in the morning. No comment on the previous night, I mentioned what had happened to the staff member or nurse. No apology even, not even a token apology. Just told me it was fixed now? I finally ask them my questions. They tell me they'll get back to me. Even after *all* that, I had to wait. We played telephone *3 times*. I had *specifically* asked *multiple* times for the doctor to call me. It was taking to long. So I just end up winging it, I find myself almost passed out in a bathtub...I am unsure how I resolved the situation but it hurt a lot. In the end, he just did not work with me at all. I sat almost passed out alone in my bathtub bleeding and miserable I gave up. If you want to know where I went read on, otherwise that's my story with this practice, feel free to make your own conclusions. A few days later a similar situation was rising up, couldn't go to the bathroom...what do I do? At this point I was so miserable I went to go see someone else. I ended up picking a Dr David T Harrison, I recommend him, he's great and has such a friendly staff. I always wondered if my issues with Midwest and Patel were me, but I had no such issues before nor here. It is a kind of a long drive from me now but I'd still see him if I had to. Colon cancer brought me to Dr. Patel for major bowel surgery including a resection of my large intestine. He uses the latest laparoscopic procedure and robotic surgery, think ‘Davinci’. He is the best there is, God didn’t create a better surgeon than Dr. Patel. I only missed a day’s work, very quick recovery.

Dr. Patel was friendly, personable, and explained the procedure to me in clear and understandable terms. He put me at ease right away. He was extremely knowledgeable. His office staff is also friendly and helpful through out the whole process. If you have to have any procedure related to colorectal, this is the doctor you want to have.

Dr Patel has been my colon/rectal doctor for 12 years. He is a good surgeon exhibiting the best in skill and patient care.
