1st appt last Aug for leg pain. Suggested spinal cord stimulator. Insurance denied; said doc missed peer-to-peer. Staff made appt for me to tell doc; said he didn't know it had been denied. Asked for steroid injection before yearend. Called many times; no return call. Portal answer copied/pasted response from earlier inquiry. Lined up injection for Mar 23. Strict 2-week pre-op regime; fasting last day. Doc said there would be 2 injections (different joints). Had 5 - 6 injections over the past 20 years, one of which without sedative in an office. Vowed never again. This was in a surgery center. Doc said no to sedative, citing must be administered in OR - not in pre-op - and time to take effect would be too long. Never heard of that. Thought pre-op was the right place for administering meds. Bottom line: took months to line up, 2 week prep for an office procedure in a surgery center, no sedation for painful procedure. Dr. Ellis is kind and compassionate. Can't say the same for IU Health.
