Dr. Greenfield at OrthoIndy referred me to Dr. Smerek for a second opinion, because I have a rare condition. I dropped off a folder with my MRI discs, op notes, etc. and waited the recommended five days. After almost two weeks, and MULTIPLE voicemails, they FINALLY called me back. Unfortunately, since he’s out of my network and I can’t afford $150 up front, he won’t see me- won’t even look at my case or confer with my doctor. I’m not asking for free service, but he won’t bill me or negotiate. Doctors really are all about the money. They couldn’t care less about pain and suffering.

Dr. Smerek was friendly and extremely insightful about our daughter’s injuries. He brought up specific things about movement in different sports and how that was impacting the injury. We’ve gotten more out of our visits with him than hours spent with other specialists in Northwest Indiana. Highly recommend!!

Had Achilles tendon detached from heel with partial bone/bump removal and subsequent re-attachment. Surgery in 2014 and happy to say I've been pain free since recovery and resumed normal cardio exercise and other activity without issue for 3+ years now. Very pleased with the diagnosis, treatment options and risks presented and final outcome of the surgery.

I have had two different surgeries done by the doctors at Methodist Sports Medicine. Dr. Dale Snead repaired my left shoulder. Dr. Jonathan Smerek repaired my left Achilles tendon. Both injuries were chronic long term injures that required considerable expertise. I'm happy to report that today I am able to not only do what used to be routine efforts with these tendons, but I am able to work out as hard as I want. My pain continues to decrease the longer I get from each of the surgeries. Both doctors were very clear communicators of the situation and the options. And the follow-up post surgery was awesome. My biggest problem now is which chronic injury to have repaired next with Methodist Sports Medicine.

Excellent doctor. He new exactly what my problem was in my foot. I had gone to several other doctors in Terre Haute, Indiana and finally found this amazing doctor. I would recommend him to anyone.

I have suffered with Achilles pain for about ten years. Went to physical therapy a couple of times with no help. The first time I went to Dr Smerek he knew exactly what the problem was. It was a nerve in my foot that was causing the pain in my ankle. He gave me a cortisone injection and I have had no more pain. He is a great doctor with a wonderful bedside manner.

Dr. Semerek has been our orthopedic surgeon for years. He has been tremendously helpful for our breaks, fractures and tendinitis . He is a God send to our family .

Had complications from surgery done by Dr. Smerek. Knowing this, he continued to pass me around to other doctors in his office and himself without trying to solve what the problem was. He acted like I was faking and making it up until EMG and MRI came back. He may be highly regarded, but I would never recommend him to anyone I care about.
