I very much enjoyed my visit with Dr Defai. I have a very swollen and painful wrist and have lost mobility and the ability to play quitar which is important to my quality of life. I told her I had been seen at other clinics and hospitals and my only options were injections and a wrist fusion which is out of the question. I am seen and treated for cancer at IU Simon and my oncologist referred me to Dr Defai and the clinic. I chose IU because they have more options including replacement. I was very impressed at meeting her and her thorough explanations of my options. After she tested me to see how I would respond, we decided that a replacement would benefit me. She is compassionate and very knowledgeable and up to date on all current technologies and methods. I trust her and look forward to my surgery and treatments with her.
I generally try to be pretty understanding, but I have to speak up about my appointment with this doctor today. Office staff are all super nice. This doctor’s reviews were great too so I was encouraged about getting some answers. I went into the hospital with tightness, burning, and pain in my forearm. The onset of pain was sudden. The pain was so severe that an MRI and CT scan were ordered. The doctor didn’t mention these or anything else about that visit. Instead, she had me tell her what happened. I did my best to keep it succinct because I wasn’t sure how much she’d read my chart. I was eventually diagnosed with cellulitis and a possible torn or ruptured tendon. (It was unclear from imaging.) Follow up today was to check up on swelling and cellulitis diagnosis. Until I offered to show her my injury, she didn’t seem interested in actually seeing it. She didn’t comment on the swelling or discoloration in my arm, instead jumped to a different diagnosis altogether, and one that does not generally align with the level of pain I’m in. She examined my arm in a very impersonal and frankly rough manner. I asked her no less than three times to please be gentle and she looked at me like that was an insane or annoying request. I left the office in tears because of her exam. I hadn’t had my pain medicine this morning (it makes me drowsy and I had an exam to take) and she didn’t seem to pay much attention to that. She got a little short with me during the exam when I was in too much pain to hold my arm in a certain position. It ended almost immediately after this. Overall, I didn’t get a warm and fuzzy impression from her. I hope this was just a one-off situation and that she doesn’t routinely tear other patients this way. I’m still a bit shocked by how it went.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
