I am so glad I have a chance to share my wretched, horrific, WORST EVER scheduling experience with Community Gastroenterology. My son, formerly seen by Riley but now transitioning to an adult GI doctor has had the WORST time trying to get an appointment to see a doctor at the North Shadeland office. The phone cue was ridiculous, I was on hold for an hour at a time, and then hung up on repeatedly: would dial back just to experience this again and again. I spent about 4-5 hours a day, three days in a row, trying to get through to schedule an appointment. Everytime I finally got through I was given the same answer: "the referral from your son's doctor hasn't come over so we can't book an appointment for him." Meanwhile my son's doctor's office said they had THREE confirmations their faxed referral went through successfully. Finally, the ONLY angel in that office found the referral, called me back and booked an appointment for 2:45 the next day. I read the bio on the website of Dr. Shah, and was so excited that we would be under his care. Left work early, picked up my son, arrived for the appointment... Was told that we would not be seen because our appointment was at 2:30. "No, it was at 2:45..." To say the worker was rude and unsympathetic would barely describe her demeanor accurately, but those two words would be the first impression even the most clueless observer would pick up on. My frustration level was at an all-time high, and my son's, too. He was in tears in the parking lot, miserable; in pain; not able to eat or drink and hold anything down, and desperate to be seen & hopefully figure out what's going on so he can receive some help/treatment/relief. I called Community's East GI office and asked for Dr. Shah's email address, just to let him know how both impressed we were at his care and credentials from reading his bio and watching his video, and also how equally disappointed we were that even though the website states "Accepting New Patients" it's almost impossible to become a new patient unless you are willing to spend HOURS on the phone for DAYS at a time, be treated rudely by front office staff, eventually make arrangements over the phone which aren't honored in person, ok with being marked a no call no show for an appointment THEY reserved and told YOU the time to check in, & ok being told that the doctor will not only NOT SEE YOU and has left for the day, but now you must WAIT NEARLY TWO MONTHS to get another appointment... Thankfully, for anyone else reading this wondering how to avoid a similar situation: Eskenazi GI Clinic does not put you in a cue for hours, they actually pick up the phone on the first few rings after you push the option to make an appointment. The staff is courteous, efficient, and accommodating. We called Eskenazi from Dr. Shah's North office parking lot, and they booked an appointment for the next day at 8 a.m. without requiring any hoop jumping. I will sadly never get to meet this great doctor who has so many stars.... very, very, disappointed, but "everything happens for a reason", I tell myself and my son! Giving one star, because ZERO is not an option!

Did not listen to my concerns. Awful bedside manner. Basically told me I was fat and that was my problem! Didn’t help me at all. So glad I found a better GI. He’s very full of himself.

Dr. Shah is awesome, I was sick for 10 yrs and had multiple surgeries, then I went to Dr. Shah. I have had no more surgeries and have started gaining weight. He saved my life! Wish I would have seen him in the beginning of my illness.

He and his nurse have terrible bedside manner. He did not listen to me, he did not educate me on my diagnosis. He made light and even scoffed at me for expressing concerns about trying a biologic immune suppressant as a first resort. I found another Dr in st Vincent that cared. Turned out I only needed a very mild prescription and I was feeling better right away.shah fear mongered said I had no options but to see someone else. He even said he thought I already had cancer after biopsy said no

He is an amazing doctor and is very patient and is willing to go the extra mile to help. I would recommend him to anyone who needed GI help

The nurse practitioner spent the entire visit with me, gathering information, discussing symptoms. She and the doctor then talked OUTSIDE the room. He spent 3 minutes or less talking to me and offered a vague diagnosis and the same old advice I had heard from previous doctors. I had hoped for better.
