Daniel Barrido's Online Review Report Card

I came across this statement while clearing files. My father never regained the state of health he had prior to this surgery & died the following year. Even though it has been 20 years, this information needs to be available when considering what Dr. you want. January 2, 2003 This statement is given by James J. Cox to his daughter, Beverly D. Cox, on 1/2/2003 relaying his conversations with Dr. Barrida prior to & after a colonoscopy preformed on him 12-18-02 by Dr. Barrida & the events occurring after the colonoscopy. At the time that Dr. Barrida suggested that I should have a routine colonoscopy procedure, I told him that procedures that were routine for most were different for me because I had a low platelet count averaging only between 26,000 and 35,000. I told him that two years ago I had a kidney stone that my primary wanted to remove, but was unwilling to do unless my platelet count of 32,000 reached a minimum count of 70-75 thousand. I told Dr. Barrida that my blood specialist doctor had explained to me that unless my platelet count could be brought up to a minimum of 70-75 thousand prior to the surgery that I ran the risk of bleeding to death during or after the surgery. I told Dr. Barrida that the initial day the kidney stone surgery was scheduled that my general physician called the surgery off because my platelet count was only up to 60,000. I told Dr. Barrida that it took 2 days and 5 bags of platelet transfusions before my platelet count reached above 70,000 & both my doctors were satisfied that it was safe to do the laser procedure to remove the kidney stone. Later, I told Dr. Barrida that I agreed to have the colonoscopy procedure so that he could look for any abnormalities, but that I did not want to be cut on without receiving platelets prior to any surgery. After the colonoscopy, Dr. Barrida said to me, "Well, Mr. Cox, your surgery went very well. Your platelet count was 30,000." I said, "What do you mean my surgery??" Dr. Barrida then told me that he had cut out 4 polyps. I was told that I could expect some rectal bleeding, but that if it became too heavy, that I should contact him. Given my platelet condition, I would never have agreed to any cutting on me without raising my platelet count to a minimum of 70,000 prior to surgery & I repeatedly told Dr. Barrida this prior to agreeing to what I thought was a routine colonoscopy to look at- not to cut - my colon. On 12-23-02 I became very weak and shaky. Later in the day I realized that I had some rectal bleeding. I became weaker & the bleeding continued & on the morning of 12-26-02 I went to Dukes Hospital emergency room where I was given a blood transfusion & transported to the Indianapolis VA hospital. My wife was unable to reach Dr. Barrida the times she called his office. At the VA hospital, I underwent another colonoscopy & received 3 platelet transfusions before the rectal bleeding slowed down. I was released from the VA hospital on 1-2-03 with a platelet count of 18,000 - the lowest count I have ever had. This statement is true & accurate to the best of my knowledge. Signed: James J. Saw this Dr. once. He was rude as hell. Don't recommend. Also, phone etiquette for staff: When you call someone, introduce yourself. It's not against hipaa to say who you are and the office you are calling from. "Hi. This is jar jar binks from Dr. Burrido's office.. is samurai jack available" You don't know me. We are not friends. So "hi can I speak to Jack" from an unknown number is going to be met with hesitation.. You could be a spam or scam caller, or even a stalker ( I've had a few of those). so,next time introduce yourself first,and where you're calling from instead of just keep repeating the patient's first name over and over asking to speak to them. They're not going to say yes or no if they don't know who you are. Spammers and scammers are on the rise. The introduction is how you set yourself apart to let it be known its official business,not someone trying to sell me a warranty or steal my credit card information. Food for thought. Almost as annoying as Dr B. Telling me if I get constipated to use my finger. Because that happened.

Dr B was thorough in his explanation of all procedures including any risks. Made suggestions to ease any discomfort I might experience after my surgery and put me at ease.

He was very short and rude to my son and mother at their visits. Treating them as if they were beneath him. Totally misdiagnosed my mother and never addressed the narrowing of her esophagus. 6 months later she had to go through a series of surgeries to stretch her esophagus because the opening was the size of a dime. Will never recommend him.

I recently had a colonoscopy & endoscopy and it went very well thanks to the skill and professionalism of Dr. Barrido. He is personable, courteous, and explained things thoroughly. No complications, but the possible risks were also made clear beforehand! I highly recommend this doctor and my wife says if the need arises, she herself wouldn't hesitate to have him do the procedures.

Dr Barrido took time to figure out my medical issues and has a very kind bedside manner. His office staff are kind, efficient, and professional.

Very aggressive about their time, but here I am waiting for over an hour to be seen in an empty office on a tuesday. Waste of time for sure. No respect for their patients.
