List of Kristopher Todd Abeln's Reviews
Dr. Abeln repaired 2 complete tears on my rotator cuff. I had no pain at all after surgery. I realize that is unusual even under the best circumstances but I believe it could not have been that way without a skilled surgeon. I am 12 weeks out from surgery and in much better shape than I had even hoped. Before surgery I had a few medical professionals tell me Dr. Abeln would be the only surgeon they would trust with shoulder surgery if they or a family member ever needed it. As far as the negative reviews I have read about him most of them had nothing to do with his ability. Negative reviews I read were “He says “mhmm” while you are talking” “office visits are too quick” “he doesn’t have good bedside manners”. From my experience he did say “mhmm” while I was talking and I knew he was listening to my every concern. The office visit was quick He has a lot of patients and takes care of business. I appreciate him not wasting his time and not making other patients wait. He took all the time he needed to explain everything and answer any questions or concerns I had. As far as bedside manners he was very professional friendly and compassionate. He even came in to see me while I was getting prepped for surgery. I appreciated that gesture. And if you do decide to have him perform surgery on you DO WHAT HE SAYS after the surgery. The sling may be uncomfortable but you have to wear it. Keeping your shoulder immobile for weeks is not fun but you can’t move it. Therapy may hurt but you have to do it. He seems to be an excellent surgeon but that won’t matter at all if you tear it again because you didn’t follow his instructions.
Dr. Abeln is a miracle worker After years of pain he replaced my shoulder and within days I was back at work. I expected to have continued pain and it was totally gone within 2 days following surgery. I went to sleep with one good arm and woke up with two. I have recommended him to some of my friends with the same problem. Totally Satisfied.
I saw Dr. Abelm in September of 2019 for pain in my right arm and shoulder hoping that he would recommend therapy. Unfortunately it was a torn rotator cuff and he did surgery which I recovered remarkably from.Dr. Abelm was very nice and professional but I also think he is very timid. He’s very to the point even if it’s not what you want to hear. I found that he would answer any questions I had. After his exam he would push his chair away while talking to me and his eye contact isn’t great but I felt he knew what he was doing. I’m not sure if he’s the same way with men but as a woman I know that male doctors have to watch their every move in the presence of a female so I could understand the distancing. He came highly recommended to me by others so I was willing to chance knowledge and Professionalism over bedside manners. I really think he is timid and timid people can be very smart at what they do.I would highly recommend him.
Dr.Abeln did my rotator cuff and it boing very well Thanks Doc. He also replaced my brother shoulders and he is doing very well. I would give him a 10
The worse doctor Ive saw..I should stuck with my gut when I learned his nickname was flash.Zero compassion and opinion trust your insurance does matter depending if you want 1 minute or five and he has isnt always right.
Dr. Kris Abeln saw my boyfriend long enough to say “I can’t help with this you need to see this doctor” all of 510 minutes after waiting 40 minutes in the waiting room. Gave no TX or anything just referred him to another specialist and then charged us $202 That’s insane Called to see about reducing it because we’re happy to pay for his time just not $202 for less than 10 minutes of it and got “no sorry no going to happen” from the office team lead the office manager and the doctor himself the office team lead assured me they spoke with him directly and he would not reduce the bill in any way. He doesn’t care about his patients. Please save yourself and research before seeing Dr. Kris Abeln. On another note the receptionist was great I wish I could remember her name but she was the only kind and helpful person at the office.
All is well as long as he is right. Someone failed to give me my pain medication script along with 2 others after surgery. I asked for them and was told he already gave them to me and would not give more. Uh no. They didnt look into it at all. My daughter got copies of the papers and proved they didnt give me any. And they could have looked that info up and didnt the day before. Basically I was being called a liar and a pill head.
I went to Dr Abeln August of 2018 after being referred there from my family doctor. I went for pain in my left shoulder they took several xrays and when he came in my room for the consultation he told me it was bursitis and to quit doing what I was doing and it would get better. He spent a whole 3 minutes with me. After getting a steroid shot from my family doctor and physical therapy I requested to see another surgeon. This surgeon looked at the xrays that Dr. Abeln office took .And immediately the other surgeon showed my the rotator cuff tear on the xray. I wouldnt give 1 star but the review has to have one to submit.
My daughter recently broke her leg and required surgery. The hospital set him up as the surgeon. So far we talked to him after a very extensive surgery and twice on the phone after hours. He always calls back and is very nice and understanding. We are not even a week post op and he seems to be going over and above. I wish I had went to him for my torn labrum surgery that I had last year because he seems to really care.
Do not waste your time on him. He is real short with you. When you talk he nods his head as youre talking saying Uh huh uh huh as if he has already made up his mind and doesnt want to listen. He did one injection the first visit with no problem because he saw how bad my knee was swollen. My last visit he told me that I need therapy or to wear a brace to make it stronger. I have arthritis. Its deteriorating. This issue I have will not get stronger. I just need treatment to help me deal with the swelling and pain so I can function daytoday and work. My knee wasnt swollen at this point because it was hard for me to find an appointment due to him being on vacation so much. He also asked me how I treat it. I told him ibuprofen because you cant treat arthritis. He asked if I had any MRIs or xrays. He mentioned that he didnt see any on file but didnt suggest one. I have had multiple over the years and told him this. When he offered the brace and treatment I mentioned that my rheumatologist had offered the gel injections in place of cortisone and his response was that anthem does not cover it anymore. He didnt tell me how much it would cost or ask if I would like that treatment regardless of the price I guess he assumed that I didnt want it. All of this interaction with him lasted a couple of minutes. Thats how quick he was trying to be done with me.I will just go back to my rheumatologist. I dont care how long I have to wait. It was a waste of time and money to only get referred somewhere else and discouraged. He did not care to listen or ask me about my pain.I actually had it set up to where I could call and go in the same day at the rheumatologists office when it swells real bad. I never had issues getting the cortisone injections from the rheumatologist I see. My knee did good for a while so it had been over a year since I had seen her and it takes 6 months to get back in. Due to the timing of appointments my family doctor referred me to his facility. Thats the only reason I saw him. The only reason its easier to get in to see him is probably because no one likes him and wants to pay him for his assumptions and rudeness. Maybe he is insecure about his position and should find another career because people is not his strong point. In response to drs responseWhat about HIPAA?Are you calling me a liar like the other people who left negative reviews? I told you I had several in the past. How would you know its early signs if you have not seen an MRI? You did not offer to have another one and there was no therapy scheduled or follow up appointment. I told you I wasnt sure the last time I had an MRI or where it was at. I was not told about any type of lubrication injection. I will absolutely not talk to you in person. I left your office in tears because I felt like you do not care about my pain and daily struggles like my rheumatologist does. I will not pay to talk to you again You are completely closeminded

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
