Laurence J Holland Md's Online Review Report Card

Dr Holland did my TKR in 2020. The result is a leg that only bends 70 degrees basically leaving me with a painful peg leg for the last year and half.More importantly for your consideration......is Dr Holland's arrogant and dismissive nature, to not even take his time to properly diagnose and treat a problem.Realize once you have picked an Orthopedic Surgeon such as Dr Holland and you encounter a problem he does not treat, you can be banished from getting a second opinion or an even from a prescribed Arthrocentesis that determines an infection with your implant, as I have.

Dr. Lawrence E. Holland OPA Ortho Swedish SeattleI had an appointment with Dr. Lawrence Holland for assessment of both of my knees. I was told by my local provider I needed to have them replaced. I chose Dr. Holland based on his history with many years of surgery for all types of patients including sports injuries.I drove 3 hours to the Swedish Hospital downtown Seattle. I parked in an underground parking area, took 2 elevators, across the foot bridge and was checked in, seen by the doctor and back to my car in less than 30 minutes. I didn't have to pay for parking, so I guess that was a plus.My point being this guy did NOT do an exam on me. I was given a pair of paper shorts to put on and told he would be in for the exam. He entered the room, showed me my X-rays (which I brought to the visit from a prior Dr.) He never touched me, manipulated my knees in anyway or had me stand or walk for him. He also did not order his own set of X-rays or test.Although he was nice enough to point out the worn bone on bone in both of knees his suggestion was to lose weight, take oral meds so that I can get my insurance to cover Hyalgan injections. Sent me home with Voltaren and told me to follow up with my rheumatologist.Below is the exact verbiage from the letter I received from his office after my appointment.Physical Examination "On exam, patient is 5' 7", and reports her weight as being 220. She has a genu varum bilaterally. She lacks 10 degree of extension bilaterally with flexion in 105 degree range. She walks with a very robotic gait. Her motoneural exam is otherwise within normal limits."Imaging Studies "I did review her outside studies. She has had a negative Doppler for DVT, but has x-rays that show extensive tricompartmental DJD and a varus deformity."Plan "I have informed her that the options with arthritis are pretty straightforward. You can do nothing, take antiinflamms, go with injectable solutions such as viscoelastic supplement, or go with a join replacement. She is really too young to think in terms of joint replacement although if everything else fails, that would be the obvious thing on the table. She reports that she has had Hyalgan in the past. I am going to place her Voltaren 75 MG PO BID. That may wreak havoc with here stomach having has gastric bypass, but I think it is a good starting point. Her diagnosis is osteoarthritis of both knees".Please tell me how this man can write a visit summary like this without even doing a proper exam. I was highly disappointed with him. I suspect he just had bigger fish to fry because I have now gone to another doctor for a second opinion and was in fact advised that I should proceed with surgery.

As a technician, Dr. Holland is excellent. My wife's knee is straight. Her foot is more aligned than previous. But as a caring, understanding doctor, he falls very short of the bar. My wife experienced a lot of swelling and pain. She still has pain after 2+ years. Now, we see what appears like a screw head on top of the knee cap. When confronted or questioned about pain concerns or lack of sleep, he shrugged off concerns as did his assistant, making her feel unwelcome. He even suggested she seek another opinion. It's one thing to have a reputation, but to think a patient with difficulty is the issue is not a very good doctor in this husband's opinion. And, he apparently can't manage his staff effectively. I would not use him. He should retire.

Dr Holland did 4 of my knee surgeries. They all turned out great and he was wonderful to work with.

After 2 years of denial, and 8 months of physical therapy, it became obvious that only surgery would fix my rotator cuff. My search brought me to Dr. Lawrence Holland, one of the best medical choices I have ever made. He has a fantastic ability to connect with the patient. He listened, consulted with the imaging results, and pinpointed the needed correction. I was completely satisfied with his explanation and plan for surgery. Dr. Holland is also an engineer, and it showed during the surgery. I received a copy of the narrated arthroscopic surgery. His precision and efficiency paid off for me. Partly due to the "pre-hab" therapy, and mostly due to Dr. Holland's skills, my recovery went super fast. I was out of the sling in 6 days (with his blessings), and back at the gym the following week, albeit with a few cautions.I wish I had made the choice to have him fix me much sooner! I referred my wife for a similar surgery, and her results (for a much more complex surgery) have been just as stellar. Thanks Doc!

I want to write a review for Dr. Holland.The very first time I saw Dr. Holland, was back in 2013 or 2014, I don't quite remember. And it was about my should and rotator cuff tear. He was recommended to me by my primary care doctor, Dr. Sheckter. I found him helpful and his diagnosis helped. Actually I saw him on that to break a tie. I had seen two doctors before one said to do a surgery and the other said no surgery. So Dr. Sheckter sent me to Dr. Holland to break the tie. And he voted for no surgery. I am glad I did not get a surgery. Because with continuous Physical therapy it healed and it became well.Now this time, I injured my knee doing a workout. I called to see him, he was on vacation and after he would be back, there is a month of wait. So I had to go to a different one in Kirkland. Dr. Holland is in the Seattle office. so I went to a different office of same facility but in Kirkland. Right away, he ordered x-ray. And he saw the images. And he said there is nothing wrong and the joints are apart from each other and there is a small point that shows arthritis, just physical therapy.But the pain did not go away. he also said that if the pain did not go away, come back for MRI. And I did go back for MRI. When I went back to see the result of MRI. He looked at the report and he said Oh, the meniscus is torn, and there are some stress fracture and you just have to live with it and come back for cortisone shot if you have to. And you are too young to get a surgery.Now, I had already an appointment with Dr. Holland but that was a month of wait. I kept on going to my PT. When my appointment time came with Dr. Holland, I could not believe how good he was. First of all since these two offices, that is the Kirkland and Seattle ones are the same, they share the same information and results. And he looked at the image of MRI and without reading the report of the MRI, he was able to tell me what to do and what the problem was. I was amazed with his expertise and knowledge whereas the other doctor, could not say anything from the picture. I don't want to mention the doctor's name in the Kirkland office because it is bad for him. But I want to recommend Dr. Holland big time. he even wrote the direction for my PT that what kind of exercise she has to focus on.I was just so amazed! Kudos to Dr. Holland. I think Swedish or OPA Ortho is so lucky to have him.

Dr. Holland operated on my right knee and removed five bodies from it. I can walk without falling. I cannot thank him enough for helping me walk again. He's the best!!!

Dr. Holland did my ACL repair in 1999. Everything went very well. I was back to normal in about 9 mos. He saved my career as a firefighter, and I got another 10 years of basketball as well. I highly recommend Dr. Holland.

Dr. Holland is by far the best Doctor I've been to. I can not say enough about him, Dr. Holland is the Greatest and I have sent a lot of my friends to see him and they are all still talking to me.
