List of German L Berbel's Reviews
I met with Dr. Berbel regarding hernia surgery. He did not do a physical exam when I met him. He said he would be doing open hernia surgery. He said it would be better than laparoscopic surgery. He said I would absolutely have a lot of pain and I would definitely have a scar. Off work for a week and no driving he said for a week. Well I asked for a referral to a laparoscopic surgeon and my PCP sent me to his partner Dr. Freund. He did do a physical exam. He said my hernia was too big for laparoscopic surgery plus I had a hernia on my left side too so he recommended double open hernia . I've had that before twenty years ago and it is pretty horrific surgery. So I went to St. Lukes and Dr. Todd Moore who is a top level laparoscopic surgeon. He said he could do it no problem. He did it. I was back at work, driving to work the second day after surgery. No driving restrictions as long as I'm not taking pain pills which I didn't need. He also said that no I did not have a hernia on the left side. He could tell once he got in there. By all means run away from these guys. (Berbel and Freund) Go to a competent laparoscopic surgeon for your hernia surgery. Berbel is a D. O. not a medical doctor and he went to North Central Texas school of Osteopathy. Not Harvard or Yale or even KU> And look around this sight at the people he has disabled. Run.
Would definitely recommend him to anyone I know
Dr. Berbel and his staff are knowledgeable, competent and capable. Several surgeons turned down my surgery as it was too difficult given my previous medical history. He made me feel at ease and completely cured the problem with no side effects with the Nissen procedure. He also repaired three hernias for me at another time. Again, excellent results and perfect healing. I’d go to him again 100% if it were ever necessary.
I am permanently disabled as a result of Dr. (lol) Berbel. I was origanally diagnosed with a small bowel blockage. After surgery I had a leakage in my small bowel near the original surgical site. I spent several weeks in ICU, going into surgery every few days to clean out my abdominal area and check for additional leaks. I was sent to rehab hospital due to the development of fistulas. Berbel was given full privleges so that he could follow up with my treatment and progress. I spent 20 months in this facility. Berbel came twice and this was only due to the vigilance of the doctors at the facility and my husband. It took several letters and phone calls before he would finally show up. Eventually, with the help of doctors at the rehab facility, I was referred to a specialist in Dallas at UT Southwestern. After surgery to repair another fistula, the surgeon informed my husband and I that all of small instestins had been removed. We were totally unaware of this due to the fact that berbel NEVER told us. When the surgeon call Berbel to discuss my case and asked why he had removed all of my intestines, Berbel's response was "I didn't know that I had." This man should not be allowed to practice medicine in any way shape or form. I was a middle school teacher who has been forced to retire on disability. I am tethered to an IV for 10 hours every night to recieve TPN. This is the nutritional supplement that sustains my life. I am 50 years old and will have to recieve this for the remainder of my life. There is danger to my liver, which is already showing ill effects. I suffer from constant diareah, stomach cramps, nausea, and depression. I am homebound much of the time. Any outings result in extreme fatigue and pain. My purpose in writing this is #1 to inform anyone considering his services to please seek another doctor, and to encourage others who have had similar experiences to come forward so that he can be prevented from harming anyone else.
Misdiagnosed me with thyroid cancer, and during surgery he made a mistake, rendering my vocal cords paralyzed. Only treatment for now is a tracheostomy, that was hard to decide to get at 27.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
