List of Douglas H. Cowan's Reviews
Was referred by a family member to see Dr. Cowan. Hands down the best medical decision I have ever made. From the nurses, PAs, to Dr. Cowan himself, I received nothing less than great care.
Dr Cowan took excellent care of my elderly mother and got her speaking voice back. We appreciated his speedy scheduling of her procedure and the wonderful caring staff who took such good care of her.
Went to this guy about hearing and breathing issues. He recommended two surgeries, neither worked for me unfortunately and I still have the same issues. Also, he grossly overcharged me for an ear procedure called a Eustachian Tube Dilation. Charged my insurance over 12 THOUSAND DOLLARS for a procedure that altogether lasted less than 10 minutes. I went to another ENT and asked about the price I was charged and he was stunned I was charged that much for that procedure and told me I got taken for my money. After my insurance covered 80%, I still was left with a 1500 dollar bill. I wouldn't recommend going to this guy, in my opinion, he's in it for the money and getting the most out of you he can.
I'm not sure how he has so many good reviews. Dr. Cowan is very nice and I think he did a great job on the turbinate reduction surgery but he did not address my primary issues. I feel like his go to is surgery and he had no interest in really trying to figure out what's going on. I'm seeing and allergist/immunologist now and he is amazingly helpful. He was very upset to hear that I had surgery with no tests to figure out why I have the issues I do. I will not be seeing Dr.Cowman again.
So far so good caring professional as well as caring staff all efficient
I wish I could give more stars!! I had head and neck cancer in 2018 and Dr. Cowan did my surgery. He was very kind and patient and has a nice sense of humor. He was upfront on pain information and what to expect. Each visit he seemed to truly care about me and my situation. He is most definitely a Dr I have to have on my in network for insurance. I trust him and I recommend him for those who need that kind of help. He did not rush any of my appointments and gave me an after hours number to reach him if I needed help with anything. Great guy!!
I wish I could give Dr Cowan more stars! I had been struggling with an issue for most of my adult life. I had given up locally and decided to drive 2 hrs from my home to give Dr Cowan a shot. He and is team, right off the bat were the most professional and courteous I had ever encountered. They diagnosed multiple issues and went over my options with me. I went back for surgery, then a two week follow up and my issues are completely gone. I never thought this possible! I read the reviews about him when making my choice about Dr's, and some of the negative review were him not spending enough time with patients. Well, all I have to say is he is there to diagnose and fix your problems and move on to the next waiting patient to better their lives. To be fair to them he does not have time for unnecessary chit chat. He is very personable and I never felt rushed, but he was quick and very professional with me and moved on during my visits. The staff are exemplary as well! If you are reading reviews in search of a good ENT, Look no further, This is your man!
I should have heeded the bads reviews and stayed away ; this place was absolute garbage and Dr. Cowan is your typical "know-it-all" who needs 4 "hot" nurses to accompany him at all times for no reason other than to stroke ego. Now for my story, I went in for a hearing loss I've had since a young age and recently I had some sharp pain in one of my ears after wearing earphones. In the last 20 years, I have seen ENTs and Audiologists in the different places i've lived to make sure it's not getting bad enough to get hearing aids, or any other issues that may have arisen. However, suddenly according to Dr. Cowan I now have an autoimmune disease and that he "wouldn't bother testing me" because the "damage is already done" and he since he saw this type of hearing loss all the time in residency due to an autoimmune disease that's exactly what I have too. I will now be going to a different Otolaryngologist next time and will be asking specifically about this "hunch" this Dr. Cowan had to see if he was anywhere near close which I doubt that other ENTs had missed over the last 20 years. The icing on the cake was this. 4 months after I was seen at the clinic in Nov 2021, my insurance was miraculously rebilled in Mar 2022 after Ascentist negotiated their allowances and billings and I was suddenly had a balance of $50 that needed to paid. Scam artists and shady billing practices to boot. What a shame.
Called nurse 04/22/2022 to tell them I had earache and sinus trouble. Also dizzy when lying on right side. Got a text from Megan saying they would try to get me in to see a doc at Lakewood. Never heard back from them. My doctor is Dr Cowan. I finally called nurse back and she told me that Megan had tried to get me in to Lakewood but no openings. No one let me know this and still wouldn’t have known had I not called the nurse back. It’s very discouraging when they don’t let us know anything after waiting all day. Dr Cowan doesn’t even go to Lakewood office anymore. I have had issues with this office before and will now change to another practice. Very upsetting.
Still completing follow ups and the staff here friendly Thanks to Krista Hoover and her Assistants for friendly atmosphere and care great women doing a great job.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
