List of Adventhealth Surgery Center Shawnee Mission's Reviews
Went there today and every staff member I encountered was great. I had a MRI with sedation. I get bad anxiety attacks and very clostophobic. Every staff member was very kind and had an understanding of how I felt. I wasn't even as nervous as I usually get. Thank you to all the staff for making me comfortable .
To begin with, if i could give 0 or negative stars I would. Secondly, this is not based on one or two visits, but years of having to go to the Shawnee location based on proximity to my residential address. All that being said, stay as far away from this facility as possible. I have yet to encounter a visit where even the most simple of matters was not made as difficult and as cumbersome as possible. Case in point: 2/24 I go in to get an X-ray Of my neck for an upcoming doctor visit. On 2/19, even though Advent would not allow me to get it, all three people i spoke with could see my doctors orders in electronic forma. I was told no reason to bring the physical copy. Well, I did And i am glad I did. The person at admitting, Jessica, could not seem to find the paperwork in the system which i gave her the date it was sent over. She said she would need to enter manually. She i formed me she needed to make a call about this. The "call" was to get instructions about how to manually enter the form. 10 minutes later that finally is accomplished. But why couldn't she have called someone to see the paperwork in the system instead of making me go through all this. I try to stay away from this place as much as possible and advise anyone dealing this to do the same.
We have now been waiting for care in the ER for 2 plus hours. We have seen multiples taken back to rooms that came in after we did. There are potential health issues and after asking at the desk that those people were taken to rapid care rooms with only a chair and not a bed. I guess if you stub your toe, you have a higher urgency than a possible TIA. To top it off, the response to my question was very rude and dismissive.
I will say the hospital admissions, emergency department, nurses at the hospital we're all kind - caring - helpful. When I was switched to the detox department for alcohol it was a joke they put the mental health and alcohol detox patients should be separated they also treat them the same as far as medications shoes, sox, you're stripped down completely then asked to spread everything I'm still feeling blah from the anti psychotic they gave me to sleep for alcohol detox.Dr Tabe Ambilichu was asking questions one of which was when did you start drinking? I replied 15 he laughed and said that can't be true - that's not true which was insulting the United States we're having fun as children or running amuck doing what we want he wanted to get out of his country so he doesn't understand many of us here to have fun as kids and party but he's response was to laugh in my face as I'm laying in a bed sweating in full blown anxiety where they took my medication away which I'm not sure why so Dr Tabe Ambilichu which on yelp has one star mind you but he's the Dr to handle a whole unit? Save yourself so you don't have to deal with his negligence because his incompetence will cost somebody a life or family member one day.
The past 49 years we have been obliged to use advent health. I cal tell you over 10 instances where quality care was not received. Some life altering. Happened again today when my son collapsed, ambulance called and Advent in SM was closest so he arrived there. Was exhibiting symptoms of stroke or seizure. Also has Autism which they ignored. Ran couple of tests, rolled him into a wheel chair, and into my car suggesting he see a neurologist before he drives. Got home, he couldn't walk, ended up crawling up stairs and into bathroom. Took him back. Hours. Finally a PA came and said he was fine, still gate is off and trouble using cell. Trying to find neurologist soon as possible. When I asked hospital if one was available, NP said "yes but he's not going to take time out of his day to see him" I could write a book about the horrors of this place. Please please, don't go there! They are all "Christy" and "caring" - not! Anywhere but Advent please!!!
My father died less than three days after being transferred to hospice from this hospital. I received a call from a "social worker" telling me he was being transferred because there was nothing else they could do. This was less than 24 hours after I said I would be there in a day and a half and was told that was fine. All I wished to know was if he was unconscious when he was transferred. I never received an answer. instead, twice I received letters telling me the hospital did nothing wrong. My question was a simple one and I assured everyone I spoke to that I was not looking to sue, that my father was 93 and ill. One question and no answer.
Someone called this place and they gave out my confidential information when they were not supposed to. I was prescribed pills I never needed. I was involuntarily detained for 6 days. They were feeding me pure sugar and I told them I needed something for my diet of celiac disease. They adjusted the food but I didn't like the fact that people came in my room and asked me questions I never wanted to answer. If I told them anything personal they were gonna have it on file. Then I had to take outpatient programs and they had my personal information I never needed them to have.
Emergency Room care is above and beyond the highest quality of care I have seen. The entire staff are attentive, professional, caring, and take time to listen to the patient.
Nearly impossible to get an appointment for primary care. The online portal is a disaster
The staff were responsive listeners. went above and beyond and were extremely helpful. They not only provided great care but researched and found solutions for my husband's needs

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
