Arthur J. Rabinowitz's Online Review Report Card

In 2012 my 92 year old father was having a heart attack. My dad's mental capacities were 100%- Always had been and he was still 100% even during the heart attack he was having. He did also suffer from emphysema. I spoke with my dad and he was still 100% mentally sharp and knew exactly what was going on. He agreed and wanted surgery so they flew him to Billings for surgery as I prepared to fly in from out of state to be with my dad during the surgery, or shortly after he got out. Before I left town I had a discussion with Dr. Rabinowitz who literally told me he did not want to operate on my dad that they could keep him comfortable...and basically let him die! He argued with me...told me he didn't have to operate on him, even if it was my wish and my dad's wishes, and basically hung up on me. I was literally blow away by what had just happened on the call. I called back 10 minutes later, talked with the head nurse, who again spoke to Rabinowitz...and with my recommendation and request (I had medical power of attorney), they finally operated. The surgery was a success and my dad lasted another 6 months. It may not seem like a long time and he was in and out of nursing homes, but we had some great times and memories those final 6 months of his life. I realize life and death is more commonly dealt with in hospitals, but I just felt like Dr. Rabinowitz made a death decision for my father to quickly and his "bedside" manner with me on the phone was wrong as was "his" decision... which meant it was "my" decision to just let him die. So kids with elderly parents...be prepared to make tough decisions...and fight for life if you believe it's the right decision...otherwise some doctors side on death's door pretty easily. I give a Fair review because the surgery was a success.

I found Dr. Rabinowitz to be very engaging and willing to fully answer all of my questions regardless of how uninformed or trivial they might have been.

Dr. Rabinowitz treats the test not the patient. My original Cardiologist moved I was having chest pains and the only thing that would get rid of the pain was nitro pills. I went to Rabinowitz. I had 3 stent already at this time he did a stress test told me I was fine. I said I was not and he was wrong. During the stress test I had chest pains bad ones. I told the nurse's this they actually said No Your Not. Because I was hooked up to the machine it showed I was fine. I had to threaten them that I would get the nitr out of my purise if they were not going to administer it. They did and after 2 squirks of nitro the pain subsided. The doc comes in says EVER THING IS FINE! I tried to ask him if I'm fine why the chest pains and why does only nitro get rid of them. He said he did not know why but I was fine. I continued to let him know that this was wrong...He got up and WALKED OUT ON ME. It turned out the MAIN ARTERY TO MY HEART WAS.......99% BLOCK ED. If I could give a minus 5 rating I would. This rating is on the Dr. and the 2 nurse's that administered the test not the rest of the staff.

I choose to see Dr Rabinowitz for a second opinion. He greeted me with a joke and smile, and was very kind and compassionate. He took extra time and answered all my questions and eased my concerns. I look forward to my next visit.
