Throughout the years, Dr Berntsen has been my surgeon for various procedures. I trust her completely and find her to be an extremely good surgeon who demonstrates sound judgment and exceptional thoughtfulness towards my wellbeing. She is confident in her work and explains clearly what she thinks is best for me. I appreciate the fact that she looks at me as an equal. Her compassion for another human being is off the charts. You can tell that Dr. Berntsen loves what she does and I have found with any profession or situation, if someone loves what they do they want to do their very best. Dr. Berntsen is that person. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Bernita Mary Berntsen has demonstrated to me that I can trust her with my life. I consider myself so fortunate to have a surgeon with her skill and compassionate caring heart in Topeka. The one attribute I find in every profession I have come across - which results in excellence - is a love and passion for what one does. Dr. Berntsen has that quality. I highly recommend her. She takes the time to help you get well.

Back in September 2029 I had to have my stomach and esophagus removed due to a faulty Nissen Fundoplication Wrap. I had been to the Mayo Clinic and heard some disrespectful remarks from surgeons there, and was about to go to Florida when I found out about dr Bernsten. She is the best. She saved my life and I am forever blessed that she is my surgeon.

Dr. Berntsen has changed my life! I have been struggling with my weight since I was a child (a long, long time ago), and Dr. Berntsen has given me so many healthy options for living a different life.

Dr. Bernstein was my bariatric surgeon, she is knowledgeable, takes time to listen to me, offers good advice and I feel like she cares about my well being. Highly recommend her for any medical care a person might need.

She is the best surgeon that saved my life. Been clear to the Mayo Clinic and KU Med and had no results til I met her. Had my stomach and esophagus removed and wouldn’t have lived if they wasn’t removed. I am forever grateful for Dr Bernsten!

Dr b has been an exceptional doctor to whom I consider saved my life. And would trust above reproach. When I met with her I weighed 315 lbs with multiple hernias including and embilical extending out wards huge as a large cantaloupe. Plus hiatal hernia where stomach was compromised and not functioning, yet due to my weight no one would risk to help me. She saved me fixed all issues, took dramatic surgical modified rny, 4 hernia surgeries, gall bladder removal, and 210 lbs and 5 years later continue to refer loved ones, and those questioning abdominal complications to the best with caring staff and complete confidence.

Dr. Berntsen has been my Surgeon since 2012. She did my weight loss surgery, my skin removal, exploratory surgeries, etc. I'm a current patient of Dr. Berntsen's. I am looking at another surgery in the near future as well. She has taken care of me through many hospitalizations and complications due to my high risk medical history as well. She helped give me my life back through my weight loss surgery in 2012. I had suffered lung damage from being in a coma for 3 weeks from H1N1 (swine flu) in 2009. I could barely walk 10 feet without having trouble breathing after the coma and was in a wheelchair. I could write pages about the things she has done for me in the last 10 years. Trust if you need a surgeon, Dr. Berntsen is an excellent surgeon who cares about you, your outcome, well-being and makes you a priority.

My wife needed emergency surgery on November 29. Dr. Bernita Berntsen was assigned to us. We could not have asked for a more caring and professional surgeon, let alone skilled. We are grateful she was there for us.
