List of Matthews James's Reviews
I have suffered blurred vision for the past 10 years. After cateract surgery, I was told this would correct the problem. My right eye was 20/15, left eye 20/20. However, since eyes work in pairs, I was having double and extremely blurred vision. Five (5) optomologist told me to get use to it, it will probably go away❗️Dr. Matthews gave me an examination with Both eyes open, thus discovering my eyes were seeing on two different planes. He corrected my problem by having a prism correction in my left eye 👁. Wow, thank you Dr. Matthews. Mike, Danville.
Dr Matthews always greets you in a positive manner, he listens and remembers you. He knows your eye history and gives you a through eye exam.
Great staff. Dr. Matthews is very dedicated to his work. He is quick to explain everything.
My first visit was okay, and I suppose the diagnosis was correct. However, when I called back to pick out frames and get the prescription glasses made, I was required to make an appointment...when the doctor would be there! I kept my appointment, only to be told that they were not part of my optical plan on my insurance and my glasses would not be covered. I should have been told this when I called, or even at the 1st visit. Since I am disabled and have no vehicle of my own, the transportation required a two-hour wait between pickup and return trips. Since I have no plans to pay for glasses that my insurance will cover, I never saw the doctor nor was I serviced in any way so my trip was wasted (over 3 hrs. away from home). If this 'visit' is billed to my Medicare or other insurance plan, I WILL file a formal complaint of fraud! The only reason for requiring an appointment to choose frames is to be able to bill Medicare for an office visit. They are crooks! I will NEVER go back.
he is a really great specaicalist
Snow and ice everywhere but Dr Mathews drove in to examine my retina.
Kind of impersonal. Main complaint is I ALWAYS tell them when making appointment that I need prescriptions for BOTH glasses AND contacts. Yet everytimeeverytime I'm given the exam and when I ask about contacts, he says "that's a whole separate exam and time wasn't allotted for that". So infuriating. Waste of my time. Happens every time. Not going back anymore.
Nice doctor and staff. Rating after my third visit in three years for annual check up. Always 30+ minutes in front wait room. Then 30+ More in room waiting to see doctor.
I see Dr. Matthews at his clinic in Cynthiana at Harrison Memorial Hospital. His staff there is always friendly, pleasant, and well-groomed. Dr. Matthews could be a little more prompt with his appointments but he always takes the time to explain everything to me and is always wanting to make sure I don't have any questions. Maybe that's why he runs late all the time! I don't know. I think he is well worth the wait and I don't trust anyone else with my eyes! I recommend him to anyone.
Dr was very rude and inpatient with my 4 yr old son. Dr was shoving things in my son's face trying to do an eye exam all while my son was crying. He did not take the time to explain anything to my son or myself. We were told to wait in the lobby for a prescription. We had to wait almost 30 minutes for this prescription (there were no other patients in the waiting area). Very unprofessional and would never recommend a child be taken to this office.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
