My experience with Emily was deeply disappointing, and I feel compelled to share it to help others—particularly people of color (POC)—make informed decisions when seeking care. During our session, I discussed a school project in which I mentioned a widely recognized statistic about the risks Indigenous women face. This was part of an academic discussion, but Emily misrepresented my statement in her notes, framing it as a personal fear and implying that I believed I was at risk of being attacked. This mischaracterization was not only inaccurate but also harmful and stigmatizing. What was most troubling is how my race became the primary focus of her notes. While I am proud of my heritage, my race is not my identity—it is my skin tone. Emily’s fixation on it felt reductive and outdated, especially as we approach 2025. Patients should be seen and treated as whole individuals, not reduced to a singular aspect of their being. Furthermore, the notes excluded important parts of our conversation, such as my passions, achievements, and the positive aspects of my life. Instead, the documentation focused almost exclusively on trauma, perpetuating a narrow and biased narrative. This approach undermines the humanity of POC seeking care and perpetuates harmful stereotypes in medical settings. I cannot recommend Emily, especially to individuals from marginalized communities, due to her lack of cultural sensitivity and inability to provide equitable, unbiased care. Patients deserve to feel seen, heard, and understood—this experience was the opposite.

Well here we have Mrs. Emily Newton having me sign a controlled substance form for my medication then having me do diagnostic testing just to find out I somehow breached the controlled substance agreement before she even prescribes me any medication. Kinda sounds like a breach in psychiatry. Goodluck I am cancelling all future appointments with her because she does not want to hear what I have to say.

I switched from Astra to Baptist Health Hardin. I had gone to Astra Behavioral Health for around two years, and my experience there was growing consistently worse. I had told myself that mistakes are normal and to be expected, but the mistakes kept piling up and started to feel like negligence. I would become so anxious when it came time to deal with them at the end of every month because I knew some kind of issue would pop up, and I would be left scrambling trying to fix it. I felt really guarded around their staff and like I couldn't advocate for myself. My family kept telling me to switch, telling me that what I was experiencing with Astra wasn't normal. I left a review on Astra-- Go check it out. I really put off switching, but I am so glad I finally did. I've now been going to BHH for around 6 months. My first interaction with BHH was so kind that it took me off guard. The difference in communication was actually jarring. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name that I spoke with. He actively listened to me, and I really needed that then. Thank you!! At first, I felt pretty cynical and was just waiting for issues to start popping up, but that never happened. Everything is just so... easy. Things work. I like their MyChart app. The folks there are empathetic and approachable. I haven't been snapped at or infantilized. I don't need to contact them four or five times to remind them to fill my prescriptions. They call me back when they say they're going to. I trust them, and that's a great feeling when it's in regards to your mental health. I so appreciate having a stable resource for mental health treatment.

Dr iqbal is a very caring, he diagnosed my wife properly after years of being misdiagnosed. He always returns calls promptly and sees us asap if needed. Couldn't ask for a better dr.

I would never send anyone there. Never call back. Uses you as a ginny pig with changes of your medicine. Leave messages on top of messages and nothing. They also lie to you. Never will go back to them at all.
