If I could give a negative star I would, no care from anyone personnel in over an hour. SHUT THIS ED DOWN
So making a complaint with the Patient Experience Improvement Program here has done nothing more than to hurt me as a patient and even worsen my outcome. They sent a letter saying they were going to open an investigation, August 10, that would be completed in under 30 days and i would be notified of the outcome. Since then, no one has called me or my mother, not one of more than a dozen calls and emails have been answered, not even the representative or patients of the ER, Kimberly, nor the head of the PEIP group, Jennifer. And the patient rep for outpatient doctors, MJ, has found it necessary to intervene with my communications with my doctor to ensure that i not discuss the event in the ER with him. It's a horrible invasion of privacy and dangerous to interfere with me being able to bring up anything with my doctor. My video call with him was interrupted as soon as I mentioned the ER event at the direction of the PEIP staff, who switched the video to a monitor who said she would call the following day to hear my concerns, and then failed to do so even when i called them 3 times when they missed our scheduled follow up call two weeks ago. I chose my doctor because he is listed as being a GLBT advocate for U of L Health, and the PEIP refuses to let me speak to him about a referral he made to the ER where I was refused care because I am gay and HIV+. I wrote the GLBT Advocacy group TWICE at U of L Health called the "We Are Listening" Group, and over a month without any replies. The day of the ER visit, I went through those HIPPA materials they always give out, found the name of the Privacy and Compliance Officer, Jason, who I contacted immediately, as per the procedure in the U of L Health HIPPA patient info packet. It said I would get an immediate response. Over a dozen phone calls and emails to his group, and not a single reply from him. It says that I can stop information about a visit from being shared, and not only have they not responded but they have shared my info about that visit with multiple providers. It's a criminal violation and total disregard for my civil rights. So no one is listening at the We Are Listening Group and no one is improving patient experience at the Patient Experience Improvement Program and no one is complying at the Privacy and Compliance Office. Whoever names these groups should be fired. You may not be a gay man with HIV, but if you are ever sick or get mistreated, heaven forbid it happens at this facility because asking for help or to remedy the situation will only make them invest time and energy into disrespecting and mistreating you even more. Oh and yes, I have reported all of these infractions to the Federal Office of Civil Rights and Department of Health and Human Services as well as to the State Inspector Generals office and the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, especially the updates about the interference with communications with my PCP by the PEIP, the lack of an investigation and stonewalling about the ER incident in August, and the lack of any follow through with the Compliance Officer. It's over-the-top and hardly surprising at the misbehavior of the physicians when the example set for the by management acts as a sword instead of a shield. I've left multiple messages with the President or Executive Director and, not surprisingly, none of them were returned.
After waiting 4 hours to be seen and another 3 hours in the ER, my mother and I were told to leave without a discharge which is malpractice. And what is worse is the Dr. K there refused to evaluate any of 20 lesions all over my body like a pox. After 3 painful weeks of waiting for monkeypox testing which was negative, I went here at the urging of my doctor. DR. K ENGAGES IN PATIENT PROFILING AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF SUPPORTS THIS UNETHICAL PRACTICE. Without my consent or knowledge, I was told a lie, to give a blood, urine, and skin lesion sample to find the pathogen responsible for my illness. Instead, he was only interested in the urine test which he sent for a drug tox screen because I disclosed that I was HIV+ and gay. And after that, without interest in finding what illness I had, they broke HIPPA privacy, came in the room and announced to my mother that they had done a drug detox screen and it was positive for amphetamine and we could leave, there was nothing he could do for me. And I replied that if I had known they were running that test, which I obviously had to pay for in lieu of the tests I had gone to the ER to have done, that I would have told him that I had been taking Trazadone for sleep, in my chart a prescription from my doctor, and that creates a false positive for amphetamine 50% of the time in urine drug tox screens. And instead of considering that, they laughed, and said "well of course youd say that" and they left never to come back and refused to talk to me at the desk. He added two new diagnoses of substance dependence to my health chart that night, left me without care, without proper treatment, and laughed at me being sick and only humiliation offered when I had asked for help. Since I had no Discharge, it took a week to get the diagnoses: 2 substance related ones, and "meth sores" all over my body. He blatantly ignored my history that 4 people had it too, 2 other going to the hospital, and that sores were all over me, several pointed out by a Dept of Public Health on my back shoulders that I could not see or bandage, not able to reach them. The importance of these facts is that meth sores are caused by individuals on meth to pick at sores on their hands and face compulsively: meth sores are neither contagious nor on parts of the body you cannot reach. He would not have known that as he had not physically had me remove a single bandage to show him 20 half dollar sized bloody painful sores all over me. And I had given him a reason for the false positive which he chose to ignore while laughing at me. That morning, according to the U of L Privacy info they give to every patient, it claims that a Mr. M is their HIPAA Compliance and Privacy Officer, and I called and left a message for him, as directed, if I wanted to restrict aspects of my record being shared, like the inane evaluation from Dr. K. that morning. Three hours later, although I would not have access to my record for another week, a dozen of my medical providers were alerted about the drug tox screen false positive. Despite a dozen calls to the Compliance and Privacy Officer over two months, he has never contacted me. I went to them for help. Instead I was humiliated in front of my mother, my 4th Amendment rights violated by invasive tests that I was unaware were being performed, my HIPAA rights violated dozens of times, and no accountability two months later. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE MALPRACTICE WITH MALICIOUS INTENT. My mom was crying when we left, she asked, "Why would they treat you like that? you did nothing wrong...." I said "It is my fault mom. I told them I was gay and that I had HIV, and, yes, mom, this is what homophobia feels like and looks like, and I am so sorry you had to witness that cruelty." NEVER GO HERE IF YOU ARE GAY, A PERSON OF COLOR, HAVE HIV/AIDS, ARE A SUBSTANCE USER, OR ANY MINORITY. They have no soul or conscience, no compassion. And they should not be involved in Community Healthcare. Community Healthcarelessness is more like it. I am beginning a hunger and medication strike in front of the Emergency Room in October. I am sick of having to fight to get proper Healthcare.
A lovely facility that took very good care of us during our recent visit.
I've been going here for a few years to get my annual mammogram (and I hope this makes me sound smart and not old!). Coming to their women's center for scans began after my obgyn office detected a spot and their equipment couldn't take a more detailed image. Even worse they didn't stress enough that I needed to go elsewhere and I went a full year without having the spot checked. Needless to say my first visit was stressful and although I tried to play it cool, by the time I sat waiting for a doctor to review my scans I was in tears. I remember how the nurse showed me empathy and checked on me while I sat alone waiting to learn if I needed more scans or an immediate biopsy. Thankfully I was cleared as healthy and since then I've never allowed my obgyn to conduct my mammogram again. I go straight to the experts. Visits are fairly easy to book and I've never had to wait long unless my schedule was causing the issue. Registration has always gone smoothly and quickly and once checked in my appointments have ran on time. Today I ran early and they took me right back. I was in and out in 15-20 minutes. The nurses also handle appointments professionally which is nice since these visits expose a women and aren't very comfortable. Jewish East offers several medical services but everyone checks in at the same registration desk. It sits behind the wall you face after walking in the front door. I've been here for a few services (CT scans, MRIs) and all services and insurance paperwork has been well explained. The associates have also been very careful with my ID bracelet. I'm always asked to confirm the personal information and when a nurse picks me up another check occurs. The hospital feels clean, organized and well designed to offer plenty of waiting areas. The lot offers plenty of parking spaces. If one is your passengers struggles to walk I'd recommend using the pull through to drop them off at the front door, especially in bad weather, because the parking spots are a small walk to the door. Getting in and out is smooth too. The hospital sits on a busy street but a traffic light keeps you safe.
My doctor prescribed an Echo Stress Test to be done here at Jewish. I arrived early and went right to registration. I was registered by a very friendly Teresa. Then she showed me where to go to the lab. I was greeted there by two very friendly and cheerful techs, Rob and Rick who talked me through every procedure they would perform and what I would need to do. Total time was to be about 2 hours. Dr. Sadlo came in shortly after I started the tests and observed the procedures. Kentucky One Health at Jewish is very well staffed and equipped to provide excellent Out Patient service.
We consulted with Dr. Frederick Hardin, gastroenterologist who scheduled two procedures within the very next week. We arrived at the Jewish East center, were taken to registration almost immediately, processed, and taken directly to a room. The room was very clean, comfortable, quiet, private, private restroom in room, all medical equipment in room. Door to nurses area and a separate door to the procedure area. The nurses are wonderful, friendly, helpful. We were treated well, everything took place in a timely, professional manner. Very impressed.
Exceptionally abusive/harassing behavior displayed by: Dr. Maida Colon in reference to my illness at the ER. Put words in my mouth that I had exhausted my options with other facilities; very rude accusations that are not true; also refused to provide follow-up scripts; inappropriate examination techniques. Never go to this hospital even if you are dying - they simply will just worsen the situation even more.
I was referred to Dr Greg Rennirt's office, here in the medical plaza, for a torn tendon in my shoulder. With this being my first surgery, I was pretty nervous. The doctor and his staff were awesome at reliving my fears and explaining the process. I had two visit before surgery day, one for the consultation and the second to read my mri results. Each visit was easy and accommodating. On my surgery day I had to show up at 6am. I'm not a morning person and had nothing to eat or drink since the night before so props to the staff for dealing with me. The nurses were extremely friendly and like to cut up with you. I was taken back to the operating room and that's the last thing I remember. Waking up was a pain in the butt but the same nurse from before the surgery was there taking care of me so that was a plus. By 2pm I was dressed and being wheeled down to my ride. The staff ready make the place and I was fortunate enough to get great people.
Had knee surgery here on 3/ 8 . At 12 they I was going home , finally at 7pm they came got me in wheelchairs and started out , she stop said all I have to take you back to discharge you and get paper work . Hadn't had anything for pain since 12 , so then finally got in the car for a hour ride home got ten minutes away they never gave me my prescription I call told the operator what happened he said I would have to call back tomorrow that they where closed and hung upon me I called back told the same dumb ass that I just left there that they wasn't closed he finally got me transferred I ask if if I had any prescriptions, yes had to go back get them and then they more paperwork to sign for the crutches, and now by then I had no place to fill my prescription I'll not go back to that hole
