Too slow but faster then olol
I've been having acute pain in my lower back and thought it was a pulled muscle though there was a swollen area also on my side and the skin was hot and nervy. I went to Ochsner Medical Center emergency room and they did blood work, urinalysis, CAT scans but didn't get a definitive diagnosis. Doctor Michelle Carley said all the indicators except for lesions pointed to Shingles but we were not certain. She instructed me to watch it closely and bring my primary care doctor into the loop. She also prescribed medication for shingles just in case. The next morning I noticed that there was one small bleeding lesion where my skin is swollen and tingly. I've set up an appointment with my primary caretaker and started taking the shingles meds just in case. Cudos and 200 IQs to Dr. Carley. Ochsners is by far the best medical facility in the entire area. All you need to do is visit once and you will immediately see the huge difference from the other medical services out there. That was amazing forethought by Dr. Carley. 5000 stars.
My son was born here and everything was excellent. I received good treatment from all the staff. In general, my two-night stay was very good.
Let me say that several months ago my oldest son had a ruptured appendix and from the time that he entered the ER doors to the time he was discharged he was well taken care of. From housekeeping to the physicians and everyone in between. Today my youngest son presented to Ochsner’s ER for urinary retention, he called me at work saying that he was going to be discharged home with a foley cath but he could not tell me much else. So I left work and went to the ER to find out if he was seen by a urologist and his plan of care. Unfortunately he told his nurse “Rucker” that I am a nurse practitioner which is something I NEVER do when a love one is in the hospital or at a doctors appointment because at that time I am in the roll of mother, daughter, or sister. Well Rucker came in the room and asked how can help. I informed him that Galen can’t home with a foley. Before I could finish he shock his head and said, “yes he can people go home with a foley everyday”. I told him that that was rude and disrespectful. He immediately started literally yelling saying that he has 4 patients and he don’t have time for this and that my son would only be seen by a urologist if he was admitted and because he is not being admitted a urologist would not be seeing him so he’s going home with a foley. I stood up and told him that I’m my 32 years of being a nurse I have never nor have I witnessed a colleague speak to a patient or family member the way he spoke to me. He continued to yell telling me that I could tell the president he doesn’t care but he would not move from in front of the door. I acted as if I was going to start to video him then he moved from in front of the door. I walked to the nurses station and saw a pregnant nurse and asked to speak to the unit manager. Rucker walked up behind me and yelled something loudly that everyone at the nurses station started looking. He stood behind me then walked in front of me yelling at me a nurse that was sitting at a computer walked over and I can’t remember what was said but Rucker continued to yell and asked the police officer to put me out. The nurse that walked over and was talking to me was able to get Rucker to walk away. I asked her for the nurse manager by this time I was crying and I kept saying that I’ve never experienced or witnessed such unprofessional, rudeness and disrespect. The charge nurse spoke with Rucker and told me that she would come to the w Room and speak to me. The name on the board said that her name was Simone i voiced my son concerns about going home with the foley, and that the only reason he came to the ER because he tried to see a urologist but the available appointments were months away and he had not urinated in a day. Simone said that she was going to talk to the ER doctor and 6 or 7 minutes later Rucker was in the room with discharge orders. Simone nor the ER nor Rucker addressed our concerns of my son having that foley in for 2-3 months. My son works in maintenance he asked for a work excuse Rucker told him that he can go to WORK!!! He didn’t offer a leg bag. The foley was not secured to my son’s thigh. And he did not give him an excuse for today. Wednesday 08/30/2023. Rucker needs to be made accountable for his atrocious behavior and lack of professionalism. I’m sure it’s not his first time doing this to a consumer/patient and their family. I’ve worked at OLOL my entire career I wonder how many jobs Rucker has had? I don’t know if my son telling him that I work at a hospital made him feel threatened but what I do know is that I did not deserve him speaking to me the way he did and I as a parent/family member should be able to ask questions in front of my adult child!
Busy, but very well organized and was helped with my problem pretty fast. People there were very helpful including the other patients and their family or friends.
My husband just had a cardiac procedure here and had to stay the night. The nurses and support staff were all wonderful. Maurice in the surgery waiting area showed such obvious care and compassion. Nurse Brandi called me at least 4 times during the procedure to explain their findings and progress. If Dr. Brian Jones had not suggested and taken on the procedure, we would still be stuck with troubling symptoms and no clear answers. The nurses made sure we had everything we needed- warm blankets, questions answered, help with luggage, going out of the way to find my husband’s favorite soda. Nurse Kristopher in cardiac recovery took my husband’s outcome very seriously and was great company for a several-hour stay. Nurses Natashia, Mike and Tyra on telemetry provided a hospital stay that allowed my husband to actually rest while still being monitored safely. The director of nursing stopped by to check on us and seek feedback and she apologized for the one inconvenience we experienced (an iv monitor going off and not being adjusted during a shift change, which although annoying seems to happen in every hospital and isn’t usually fixed as efficiently as this was). As the support person for the patient I felt truly seen and cared for. Everyone was knowledgeable, thoughtful and personable, and this took as much stress as possible out of a naturally stressful situation. RECOMMEND!
I have had mixed care with Oschner. Some have been VERY good experiences and then I have also had some bad experiences. When my mother passed away they were very compassionate and comforting (as I was bedridden at the time and my mother was caring for me - so I was brought to Oschner when she passed until we could figure out what to do). They made me feel less alone in my time of need. Then when I had Covid they saved my life 3 times at least. I was on a Ventilator for about 18ish days and in the hospital another 2ish weeks after and was told I coded 3 times but they revived me and did everything they could to keep me alive. They said it's a miracle I made it through everything I did. I have them to thank for my life. I'm now out of a nursing facility about a year and a half later and still recovering, but doing A LOT better. I honestly do not think I would have made it this far without Oschner to help me. HOWEVER... I have caught them lying to me before about test results or about stuff in my records or that was said to staff that was never said or a misunderstanding or something. That's really been the only issues I've had with them though. EDIT: I prefer them over any hospital in or near town - but if they keep up the way the have been lately then I may have to find somewhere else to go. I don't want to result to that since I've generally had great experiences with them, but I also feel I deserve to be taken seriously. If you are a medical "professional" then you should act accordingly. It seems that some went into the field for the wrong reasons. I'd like a caring person willing to do what they can to help, not someone that is dismissive and cold towards me. They seem to have a bit of a mixture of both...
I was cared for by an awesome team. Alejandro and Shannon were very knowledgeable, kind and respectful. They helped me feel much at ease. Thank you so much, for the excellent service.
Excellent service at hospital, friendly courtesy staff
At first things seem to go quick with the staff. I went in for chest pains on my left side that was also shooting to my back. I was kept in a room 3 hours only given Tylenol I took Tylenol at my house before I even decided to go to the emergency room. I was stuck 4 times by 2 different nurses. After sitting so long in pain I just walked out I was also told they had a emergency on the other side of the hospital so I wasn’t a priority that’s how they made me feel. LaShanda Watson is my name and I don’t recommend going there because you’re not a priority
