I'm 60. When I was 27 I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder - that was 1987, right when the SSRIs came out. I think Prozac was the only option. My work has taken me to many different states each with a different psychiatrist or therapist or both - even to Germany. I moved to New Orleans about 6 years ago and immediately started seeing Dr Morson. I've been seeing him for 6 years. Over the past 30 years I've seen many psychiatrists some okay and some really bad-hurry up-get in-write a new prescription-get out. It's funny now but there was this someone Freudian guy- old, in Philadelphia that cleared out a room of 10 people in an hour!None of these doctors really took the time to listen to me and therefore the meds dosage and type wouldn't change. Depression and anxiety would come back. all of the doctors just kept me on the same dosage or at the same drug except for one. I like that one. we had a lot in common but his cocktail which by the time I was 50 I was taking an SSRI Adderall and Klonopin I think and we tried abilify. But that was a really sad time for me so it was hard to distinguish what was clinical depression and what was normal sadness.I'm currently on similar meds with Dr Morrison. however he listens and tweaks the dosage. for example I moved from 40 mg Paxil to 50 mg of Paxil. now Paxil doesn't make a 50 mg tablet, so he had to prescribe me a 40mg and a 10mg. my doctors in the past wouldn't tweak the milligrams in these minute amounts. It's too bad because I've never gone so long, so many years with no depression at all - except the normal sadness; but those are two different things of course. You have no idea how happy I am to be depression free. It took me 24 years to find this guy.and I like him. he understands the chemicals and their interactions. and also he's a real nice guy.I would have given five stars were it not for the two therapists that I've tried there. I don't know what to say, other than I didn't feel helped, or given the cognitive behavioral therapy that I needed. So I had to "break up" with two different therapists over the past 3 years at ibh.I wish she would open up the office doors again because I love Kathy and Lynn, and I miss them so much.
Nothing integrative about it. My intake appointment, when I was pretty distressed, consisted of me pouring my story out, including my many bad experiences with meds and my hope for a little good news from them with what they advertise as an integrative approach. I talked, she typed, asking questions only. At the end, she asked ME what I wanted THEM to do, not what they could offer me that might be different than any other psychiatric care situation I’d been in. When I said the word “therapy”, I was dismissed with, “I’m a doctor, not a therapist. Our therapists’ wait list is months long.” She then proceeded to auction off meds to me, a few of which I had mentioned in my list of terrible experiences. I paid over $200 for that appointment.
I would NOT recommend IBH NOLA. Coming from somebody who has experienced wonderful treatment elsewhere... this was not impressive. It is unfortunate when your doctor treats you more like an annoyance than a patient.Absolutely ridiculous missed appointment fees and quote “reminders are viewed as a courtesy”. They also quoted $100 on the phone but my bill says $150 & $175. This is with perfectly good insurance.
Avoid Aldo Mejia like the plague. Wish I could give zero stars for lack of professionalism, bedside manor, and overall lack of knowledge. He treats anxiety & depression with no wonder as to what might be causing it. Horrifying.
They over charge for all appointments. It is never reasonable and the only care they seemed to offer is pushing pills on their patients in a very concerning way. You say you are tired, they give you an upper. You say you are anxious, they prescribe you a triple dose of an SSRI. I am not sure if they know this is what they are doing, but as a patient it could not be more clear. There are a fair amount of responsible and empathetic mental health practices in the area, I would advise looking into those instead.
Do not use this office for your mental health needs. First I saw psychologist who was demeaning and had long lasting effects on my body image and self esteem. Then I proceeded to make an appointment with a psychiatrist, who had zero interest in hearing anything I had to say. When the appointment could not be made possible due to location (I was visiting Texas for labor day weekend), the psychiatrist did not even want to reschedule the appointment. Both practitioners were completely rude. Do not use IBH under any circumstances.
I've spent a lot of time at IBH New Orleans between psych appointments, therapy, and Spravato sessions. The psychiatrists have all been wonderful to work with. I've seen a few of them in various capacities, and they've been uniformly kind, compassionate, and skillful. The office staff has been helpful too getting insurance and appointments squared away. I've recommended IBH to friends who need a psychiatrist.

I had a disheartening experience and it was very expensive.
I have left 5 messages (phone and web) for this group to schedule a new patient evaluation for a relative by recommendation of University Medical Center In-patient Behavioral Health Unit. It has been 8 days since my first message was left and I have yet to hear back. I even had a social worker call on my behalf. She was able to make contact with a staff member who assured her I would be contacted right away. That was 2 days ago. Still nothing. As a healthcare professional, I am actually appalled at the lack of professionalism and concern for those seeking mental health care from this group. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
