Alice Shaw's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Alice T. Shaw MD PhD has been my lifesaver for the past 7 years so far starting back when few docs were aware of genetargetable mutations for lung cancer besides the first one EGFR. Along with colleagues scientists drug company researchers lab experts and other oncologists in other locations she’s repeatedly brought highodds breakthrough cancer treatments and hopeful new experimental options to patients. In particular she’s been this decade’s top goto research oncologist in at least the eastern USA some say in the world for lung cancers driven by the rare ALK and ROS1 targetable gene fusion rearrangement multiple breakthroughs and she also participates in and oversees other lung cancer research at MGH in Boston.Back in 2011 my local oncologist in Philadelphia expected I’d have only 2 years to live if nothing worked ... and nothing was expected to work. I asked about experimental targetablegene testing and was directed to Alice Shaw in Boston. Her testing found a new option for me and I became one of the first dozen people in her ROS1 trial ... which was amazingly successful 80%90% odds of benefit in early data and the news and drug approvals eventually spread around the world.Alice was brilliant from the first meeting and always had a knowledgeable or insightful answer to every question I asked about newemerging research. And diligent about checking up on me when I might need it. And compassionate too based on my experience and hearsay from my peers fellow patients who faced harder challenges.Though my options and odds of benefit will shrink down the road I am forever grateful to have found Alice and her expertise in what I have to guide my choices and care.

When I was diagnosed with lung cancer as a nonsmoker I was blessed to be referred to Dr. Shaw. She comes to every appointment giving me her full attention and has a fantastic attitude. Dr. Shaw communicates in an authentic manner and breaks down all the medical talk so I can understand the whole picture. Dr. Shaw and her staff are true professional I’m extremely fortunate to have the best oncology team.

Dr. Shaw and her entire staff go the extra mile in every way possible. Besides the brilliance they’re wonderful people in every aspect. ++++++

Dr Alice Shaw is a living embodiment of Mother Theresa and Albert Einstein. The smartest and most compassionate Dr. my family has ever encountered. She is a life saver in the true meaning of the word. We are forever indebted to her.

Dr. Shaw is an outstanding physician who has the very rare combination of superior knowledge and exceptional bedside manner. My husband a neversmoker was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago. Dr. Shaw has given my family hope. We travel from out of state regularly to be seen by her. There is noone we trust more. She is brilliant thinks out of the box and is acutely aware of all facets of the disease including innovative new treatments for lung cancer. To add to it she is genuinly kind and authentically connects with her patients. Her caring manner is above and beyond any doctor we have seen ever. There is really not enough positive words to say about her. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have her as our doctor. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for a truly caring brilliant doctor to have on your side.

I will agree with the other review here that this doctor was in fact too busy to spend time with patients. She may be a great researcher or scientist on ALK mutation and I have no problem giving her a 5 star rating on that part however a good researcher doesnt necessarily mean a good doctor. Being a good doctor is seeing patient as human instead of just some numbers or statistics. Being a good doctor is like being a patients coach instead of some dictator and if a patient or their family send you a followup email please have the courtesy to respond. It really takes no more than a few seconds of your valuable time to write a few words like sorry we cant help you or please call my office but I guess Harvard never taught you that.

Dr. Shaw is the smartest most caring doctor I have ever interacted with.

My wife had lung cancer and travelled to Boston to see Dr. Shaw. She is a remarkable physician and person. Excellent scientist uptodate in a rapidly changing field but also with empathy.
