Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Online Review Report Card

I'm so surprised DFCI received a 3.9 review? We were part of the adult leukemia program. My family would give it a 10/10. The doctors, PA's and nurses were unbelievable. Very knowledgeable while being kind and compassionate as well. I highly recommend for cancer care. On another note, I would give DFCI in Weymouth a 0/10, which includes never being able to get a person on the phone, not being able to schedule appointments, to running out of CHEMOTHERAPY (yes, that's correct), nurses who could not care less, pathology cells counted incorrectly, the list goes on. DFCI needs to take their name off the signage in Weymouth. We ultimately switched everything to Boston and it was like going from Motel 6 to the Four Seasons.

Dr's, nurses and staff are great! Really engaging . They listen and are patient, explain in detail all procedures. I have fight with Multiple Myeloma for the past 10 years and thank God I've got a awesome team to keep me going.

I was diagnosed with mesenteric lymphoma in 2024 at Brigham. I tried making an appointment and I was told I have nothing wrong with me from some image they quickly made that decision. The patient knows more about their issues. I called Nelly who worked for Brigham and she couldn’t have been more rude and nasty. I wouldn’t have someone like her working for me. Dana and Brigham have ended their relationship and you can certainly feel the hostility. I thought Dana Farber was top notch and was impressed. Not anymore.

I would just urge people to exercise caution if coming here for a second opinion, especially if you are uninsured or underinsured. They charge WILD money for the consult whether or not they have seen the records from the first information. That's a fault of scheduling, really, which is terrible everywhere nowadays.

Amazing They found my dad's cancer

As a 78 year old diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, I completed 12 treatments at DFCI in October of 2024. My oncologist , PA and infusion nurses provided comfort, information and expertise. All fantastic and instill trust in their patients. The staff, lab nurses , valet parking attendants were wonderful. We drove 3-4 hours each way to Boston from our home 15 times! Now follow up every 3-6 months. DF is the BEST! Judy H

I had military service–related stage 4B Hodgkin’s lymphoma from burn pit exposure in Afghanistan back in 2009, and Dr. Freedman and Dr. Mauch saved my life. I’m very lucky to have had Dana-Farber close enough for me to go there for treatment. The new facility is super nice as well, and the staff are always very welcoming and helpful. I have had a few recurrence scares, one of which involved another hospital having me within two days of starting a bone marrow transplant and more chemo. I decided to have my doctors at Dana-Farber take a second look at everything, and they got right back to me saying to absolutely not do any kind of treatment — that this was not a recurrence. Not only was that a huge relief, but they also saved me from undergoing unnecessary treatment that I’m not sure I would have survived, as well as months as an inpatient at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

My care was outstanding. The medical team took good care of me and despite the covid shut down impending, they made sure I had my surgery. The follow up care was also excellent.

I could say a lot about this place. Some of it good, most is not. Let me preface this by saying I am an oncology patient and an oncology RN. I worked at a NCCN Cancer Center in another state for decades. Much better place. I moved to MA b/c of my partner’s job. So, I switched my care to Dana Farber. It was really just maintence stuff and dealing with a very high risk genetic mutation. That involves screening. Well, if you don’t qualify for a clinical trial or don’t need one, nobody cares about you. They literally don’t care. The staff is really hateful. Nurses, aides, techs they are awful. The only people who have been genuinely nice are the people in the lab and the phlebotomist. The people at the desk where you check in ad check out are also friendly. If you get past the desk in the lobby where they will announce all your business out loud. The treatment rooms take all your privacy. The curtains between patients mean everyone in the room knows your business. Worst of all, I was sent to Brigham for a screening test. I have it every year. Dana can’t do it. It requires sedation. Again, I’m a nurse and I’ve had this done annually for the past 6 years. I know what should happen. they did not follow a single safety regulation and if I had not finally spoke up, I would have had conscious sedation without ever signing a consent and never speaking to a doctor. I kept thinking, they will do it, they will do it and finally just as they were about to sedate me, I spoke up. Chaos started. The worst part? The screening changed dramatically from the year before. They did not call to tell me. They only released part of it in the MyChart which is illegal but trust me, no hospital in Boston gives a flip about regulations or safety. The report sounds like a total different situation. I was already losing a lot of weight and continued to after. This test was done the first week of July. It is now the second week of November. No one has contacted me. Not a soul. Brigham started sending me several emails a day asking for donations before I was even out of the building but no other contact. I wet back to my old cancer center It is 700 miles from Boston. It’s not good news. Not good at all. But, to get real care, compassionate care from compassionate people who also care about safety, I will go 700 miles. My life is worth it and I would suggest anyone with cancer get out of MA. There are closer places like NYC, CT or MD but I go home. It’s worth the travel. Dr. Sydney Farber was a great man, great doctor and great researcher. I feel certain he would not approve of this place.

My experience with this place was nothing short of horrific, from the very beginning. It was exactly the opposite of what their reputation seemed to imply. Nothing but total incompetence, indifference, and rudeness. I was unable to get a second opinion after 6 months of trying, because they have a horrible third-part vendor for this. Even after they fired the vendor, the new vendor tried to more than double the cost, even though it was clearly stated on their website. When I finally got there after being denied care for several more months, I was treated with utter indifference. The oncologist made it clear that she was bored by constantly yawning during our brief consultation, and just shrugged when I asked questions or concerns. The greeting was rude upon arrival, the facility is old and maze-like with nobody who seems to know how to direct you and poor signage. Their website "patient gateway" is total garbage. When I was unable to access it I was shrugged off with "nobody else has a problem" and there was never any follow up as promised (I still cannot access it). I ended up going out of state to get care at University of Rochester Wilmot Cancer Institute in upstate NY, which I can highly recommend as a place that will treat patients humanely. Stay away from DFCI at all costs if you want to receive compassionate care!
