Mass General Department Of Dermatology's Online Review Report Card

I’ve had a few appointments here in the past year and have consistently had a good experience. The doctor took the time to answer my questions clearly, explained everything in a way that was easy to understand, and never made me feel rushed when asking a bunch of questions.

The dermatology department is an embarrassment to this otherwise amazing hospital. I was truly hoping the low reviews were a thing of the past, but that was not the case. I waited more than one year to secure an appointment and literally spent 1, maybe 2, minutes with the doctor (Dr. Roh) and another 3 minutes with an intern. Neither had reviewed my file — I’ve had 2 years of intermittent, unexplained rashes. Both simply told me to continue taking Zyrtec and closed out the appointment with “now that you’re part of the dermatology practice just reach out and we’ll get you in”. Seriously?!

Great experience with the provider, but the receptionists are difficult to deal with. They’ve scheduled appointments to be too short for the provider, and for the most part they have been rude when trying to schedule things. Disappointing service for somewhere where you pay hundreds or thousands out of pocket.

Bad customer service if I could give zero star I would.

This review is for the dermatology surgery unit. My wife had Mohs procedure and Dr Williams and the whole team were A+. We checked in with Jace. He was wonderful. The rest of the team. Josh, Salina, Molly. All fantastic to my wife and me. Happy to have my wife in your care. Great team.

Was seen an hour after my appointment time and was barely listened to. Very rushed and the doctor immediately pushed accutane :( not to mention the insane rates for the parking garage. Would not recommend if you want to be listened to and treated as a person.

The phone receptionists at the MGH dermatology department consistently have a snide and short tone whenever I call in. This hospital needs to train its staff on how to not be rude when people are in pain and need help from them. It must be trickling down from the attitudes of the doctors. I had to see Dr. Janice Tiao a few months ago and she was the most stuck up and rudest doctor I've ever seen. I saw Dr. Lilly two years in a row after covid and she was not rude per se, but did have a haughty, curt tone, the appointment was rushed, and she wouldn't really talk with me about most of the questions I had (about (a painful) scar treatment, warts, unknown things across my skin, etc.). She basically just referred me to a "cosmetic dermatologist" at MGH. Not sure what this dermatology department actually does all day. My dermatologist at Emory in Atlanta just helped me take care of my skin holistically. MGH needs to figure out how to better restructure their dermatology department. As many of these other reviews say, this place is for the birds. And some of these doctors shouldn't be allowed to see patients at all as they care 0%.

They ruined my skin , went in and doctor literally listened to me for 2 minutes and just prescribed an acne medication when it was not that , had an appointment again because after using the wrong medication prescribed it ruined my skin barrier, the appt lasted 5 minutes seemed like they didn’t care about the issue at all gave no diagnosis or anything and didn’t listen to my concerns and just said to do what I am doing. Whole meeting was just him agreeing with me and nodding his head. I’m paying to get seen and they have no idea what to do. These doctors do not know what they are doing and will disregard all your concerns , such as waste of money. They will also ask to keep making follow up appt and literally won’t help you, never go here save your money and skin they have no idea what they’re doing here and don’t care about you.

Dr. Gideon Smith was amazing; kind, patient, understanding and answered all my questions and put my worries to ease.

While dr.Lilly was super nice I felt rushed both times I met w her. (Forget that it took me almost a year to get this appt) She brushed over any questions I had and just threw a bunch of scripts at me. I understand they are busy but I wish I felt peace of mind for the questions I went in with. I’m def going to go elsewhere for my next dermatology appt. (Very surprised this is through the MGH, I always feel so cared for w MGH but not here)
