I saw Dr. Michael Oats today for the first time after being referred by my Dr. who just retired. The doctor's assistant was off hand and knew everything and her attitude was rude. She asked me if I wanted a cataract operation even though my previous doctor said they were not ready this year. I told her it was up to the doctor to tell me if I needed the operation not for me to make the choice. Then, Dr. Oats asked me the same question and I told him I thought it was his decision not mine. He then went through the information about cataract surgery which I declined as he even said mine were not so bad at this time. What I came away with was the fact patients are going ahead without cataract surgery without weighing the true facts. It should not be something casual like if I want it done or not, it should be done only if the doctor says it is necessary. The doctor told me to go back in a year and I left the office after he ordered another test of my eyes. I forgot to ask for a prescription, once I got home I had a difficult time getting through to an office to get the doctor's phone number in the Falmouth office, the person asked me if the doctor had given me a package with instructions, I was given no such package but was told I could leave the office. I feel the lack of professional care was not afforded me with the visit and I also felt the doctor was put out because I refused to have a cataract operation which was not needed at this time.

Dr. Oates talked me into unnecessary cataract surgery that left me withmuch worse vision. He is part of a mass-production assembly-line factory with little concern for individual patients.
