List of Louis Liou's Reviews
While getting inducted into the Seedless Grapes Club is never a pleasant experience, Dr. Liou did a great job keeping it calm and professional. The whole procedure took less than half an hour. Dr. Liou and Nurse Dee did a great job of explaining what they were doing all the while putting my nerves at ease as much as they could. The doctor even taught me some Chinese phrases to use during my upcoming trip to Taiwan - so it was a language lesson and vasectomy 2 for 1!
Come for the vasectomy, stay for the conversation. It's a funny thing having another person stick, slit and carve away at your bits, and I have to admit, I was nervous beforehand. But the procedure with Dr. Liou was 100% painless and over before I even realized it. Great bedside manner, distracting conversation, and the dynamic between he and his assistant (clearly of many years) was comforting and entertaining. I must add too that compared to the stories of some friends who also got...fixed, I seem to be experiencing much less post-op discomfort, which I can only imagine speaks to his skill and experience. If I could have another vasectomy (thank god I do not), I would choose Dr. Liou. Again.
Dr. Louis Liou is one of the best surgeons I have had the pleasure of being a patient of. I went to see him for a vasectomy, and he was very honest, kind, and considerate during the consultation. My primary hospital is Beth Israel, and my PCP is affiliated with them. But due to the fact that the larger city hospital were booked until mid summer or the fall, I went outside of my comfort zone and made this appointment with the Cambridge Health Alliance Surgical Specialties and the Somerville Hospital.I wanted to have the procedure done very quickly, as I had two weeks in between jobs, and they were able to accommodate me. Due to a medication I take daily (NSAID), he did warn me about bleeding being a risk factor after the procedure - and that the risk for bleeding is slightly higher if I did not cease the meds about 7 days off prior to the surgery.I explained that I knew the risks, and would still like to have the surgery three days after ceasing that medication. He agreed. His bedside manner was fantastic, as was that of his staff (especially the older, Italian female nurse - great sense of humor behind a very professional countenance). Even though I was completely exposed, so to speak, the staff and the doctor made me feel very comfortable. It was all done in less than 20 minutes (the procedure itself - time in hospital was about 1.5 hours), and with ice and taking it easy, I've experienced little to no swelling, and no bleeding. His incisions and stitches were perfect. If looking for a vasectomy and you live in the Boston area, I highly recommend this doctor. I come from a family of doctors, and have a lot of friends who are doctors, and honestly - I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to my healthcare and my providers, and I can say with full confidence that he is a great doctor, surrounded by a great staff.Just be sure to not be an idiot after your procedure, and follow his orders (and common sense). No rough sex or carrying around furniture all day. Take it very easy - after all - we're talking about a rather important part of a man's body;)
I had my prostate surgery with Dr. Liou and I have the highest respect for him and the staff. He performs his surgeries at the Everett Hospital/Whidden Hospital. I was kept informed as to what to expect and what to do afterwards to recuperate. There are obviously many options in this area to have surgeries performed and if you must have prostate surgery I recommend Dr. Liou if you have this option.
Dr Liou gave my father a medication and either did not review his medication list, or did not consult with his neurologist (who would have told him to not prescribe it) and therefore set off a chain reaction of events, and the declining health of my father and his living situation. From assisted living with a girl friend, to her falling with him, she ends up in hospital and rehab, he declines from her gone, falls, got more confused (medication affect), and then him in hospital and rehab, and struggling to come back to his assisted living, possibly now end up in nursing care sooner than he would have. All cause the doctor had a bad idea.
It took three months to get an appointment. His staff sent misinformation regarding the time for the appointment and the receptionists failed to check me in on the day of my appointment. Dr. Liou gave instructions for the medication that were different than the medication he prescribed. (1 per day vs. two per day). He indicated that he had Saturday hours and his scheduling staff reported no such availability when I attempted to make that appointment. He may be a competent Dr. however, he is surrounded by so much incompetence that I lost confidence.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
