Stephen Dyda's Online Review Report Card

Went to Dr Dyda due to what I believed to be apparent heart anomalies. He arranged a stress test in mid Nov (2019), but could not make appt to discuss results until 6 wks later in early Jan (2020) due to his vacation schedule. A day before my appt, I ended up in Emerson ER because I was dizzy and almost blacking out. Turns out my heart was stopping for 6-7 sec at a time (found out later that day). Called Dr Dyda (whose office is two flights up from ER) around noon to see if he could discuss results of test instead of waiting until next day and perhaps even see me in ER. He was way too busy for the rest of the day (I was there from 11-9). All his associates also way too busy. ER dr was great, called personally to find hospital with ICU (Emerson had no availability). Ended up at BI with emergency Pacemaker installed that night. My wife called Dr Dyda while I was getting permanent PM next day to cancel appt and was asked if I wanted to reschedule. Can you guess the answer?

Smart, kind and patient. Explained everything thoroughly. Have sent many friends and family to him and all happy.

Appears competently trained (and pleased with himself), but his human connection with this patient was poor. He shakes your hand at the beginning and end of an appointment--behavior learned as an option in medicalschool?--but his connection feels perfunctory. He has ready answers and responses before he's really listened to the question or the issue. I would not see him again--though he has a wonderful nurse practitioner, Karen Flynn. Try to bypass Dr. Dyda and get an appointment with KAren Flynn.

I saw Dr. Dyda for 5 years following up a childhod illness that left my heart valves damaged with ctive arrythmia and blood clot issues. He has a very pleasant bedside manner, but appointments with him are pretty perfunctory, "How are you doing." "See you in six months." I long ago stopped looking for bedside manner in a specialist. I want a specialist who is on top of his or her game and is up on the latest medical, pharmacological, and surgical treatments. Dr. Dyda is not. He doesn't seem to have a probing / questioning nature.I get all the real stuff from supplementary cardiologists at Large medical centers. During my last appontment with him at the start of this year, his intake assistant asked three probing questions and expressed concern about all the answers. Dr. Dyda didn't follow up on even one point during the appointment. I had my aecond a stroke a week later, which I'm still trying to recover from. At that appointment, I raised the issue of a medication that I had been on for years at the highest dose of. He said several times we couldn't lower it. After the stroke, my heart almost stopped and the other doctors thought it was due to that medication.The dosage was immediately cut by 2/3s. Ihad hoped to keep Dr. Dyda as my local cardiologist, but have since changed to other cardiologists at a large medical center. They are looking at medical devices like pacemakers, which DR. Dyda never once mentioned as as an option, even though I have since found out his practice supposedly specializes in them. . Overall. Dr. Dyda may be good if you want someone who is local with a nice bedside manner and you just require routine, conventional care. But if you have a serious, active or progressive disease, I would look elsewhere.
