Robert Vazquez's Online Review Report Card

I noticed a few reviews giving Dr. Vazquez a low rating because of his "conservative attitude".  Hey may be conservative, but I am very happy he is my primary care physician (6 years and counting!) - and I will not see another Internal Medicine doctor.  Speaking as a gay male that just turned 50, as conservative as Dr. Vazquez may be, he has always treated me with respect and never made me feel uncomfortable for who I am.  I consider myself lucky that at my age, thanks to Dr. Vazquez, my health is great.  I do have to lose a bit of weight and he does get on my case about it, but that's what makes him a good doctor.  Would you rather have a doctor who tells you what you want to hear?  I know I don't.

Very happy with my first visit.  He was thorough and inquisitive about the specific concerns I had. Kind of dry, but I'm not looking to be entertained - if you want a thorough doctor who takes time with his patients and shows actual concern - Dr. Vasquez is your doc!

My review is for both Dr. Vazquez and the Sutter Pacific Health Foundation. In summary, BEWARE if you're a first time patient looking for a new primary care doctor. I'll try to break down my review in two parts: Dr. Vazquez and the Sutter Pacific Health Foundation system.DR. VAZQUEZ: I had set up my annual physical with Dr. Vazquez since it was covered as part of my health insurance. Everything was generally fine and routine with the front desk staff and the nurse that took my vitals and gave me my flu shot. However, with Dr. Vazquz, I had the impression that he was very disinterested and routine with the visit. His bedside manner could have been better. He almost seems like he didn't want to be there.  However, he did do a standard (and I believe, thorough) physical. At one point, he asked me if I had any concerns or anything, and so I replied that I do get headaches from time to time. We spent a bit of time talking about that, and moved onto the rest of our physical. I mention this little bit for one primary reason...and this segways into my review of the hospital system...SUTTER PACIFIC HEALTH: Because I answered the question about any concerns and had mentioned headaches and it was noted in the notes that Dr. Vazquez had, the billing department coded my visit as an OFFICE VISIT and not a PHYSICAL (which is what I requested). So for some insurances, preventative care is not subject to a deductible, but office visits are. So, as a result, when I received my bill, it was for my whole deductible. When I called them (multiple times) to see if it could be changed, the billing department told me various  different reasons for why they can't code it as a physical such as the fact that I mentioned headaches (even in a response to a question), a new patient has to establish care first before getting preventative services, blah blah blah. This is all cool and fine if that's the way they want to do things, but it would just be MUCH more helpful if it was brought up BEFORE the visit, especially if I had specifically called to schedule a physical and had not anticipated that it would be coded any differently. I will end up paying the deductible because I know I don't really have a choice now. But I wanted to warn others who are thinking about coming here because I don't think it's right for a hospital system as large as theirs to not inform their patients of this policy and not consider the consequences that a difference in coding has in their lives. I'm sure there are people out there that have high deductibles and were not expecting to use it for their preventative care, and this small coding difference can play into whether they have enough money to feed their family or pay their rent. So, PLEASE consider other health care facilities if this is a concern of yours.

Dr. Vazquez is very rude, he is so full of himself and doesn't show any empathy to his patients. I went with my mom to his office we tried to be friendly, he didn't even payed attention to us, he was just looking at the computer all the time and even though he answered to some of our questions he seemed very annoyed, if you are a Hispanic don't even try to make connection with him, even though this man is a Hispanic descendent, it seams that he does not identifies at all with our population. Dr. Vazquez is 100% dependent on the laboratory and computerized tests, not so much on the clinical examination. In my opinion a health care provider most be very compassionate, patient, and show empathy to the patients, at least that's how they are trained, I don't know if it was different than that when Dr. Vazquez went to the medical school, but nowadays it is supposed to be like this. We don't feel happy at all with his service and don't recommend him.

I have to say that Dr. V was just fine with this 20-some yr. old.  Actually he was pretty spectacular. I've been shopping around for a new Dr. since I've felt that my past ones had been pretty...let's say judgmental and/or condescending?...but I felt that Dr . Vasquez asked very thoughtful questions and had read over my charts very thoroughly, familiarized himself with my family history and seemed extremely invested in maintaining my good health.  He didn't come off as conservative to me, acknowledging my recreational drinking w/out attitude.  I second the opinion that Dr. Vasquez is "very accomplished, thorough, informative and personable."

Medically-speaking he may (or may not) be excellent, but his conservative attitude is a problem. Even the most innocent of questions relating to sexual health or recreational drinking was dismissed with a "I don't know anything about that, but I wouldn't do it." As a hard-working, God-fearing, upright, American citizen, I didn't appreciate the judgement.If your motto is "abstinence in all things, excluding abstinence" then you and Dr. Vasquez may get along, but your average 20-something adult may not see eye-to-eye with him.

I'm not certain what the previous review is all about! Uncomfortable to be in a room with a 20 some odd yr old? PALEEZE!  Get over yourself!    Let me say this, Dr Robert Vazquez has been my family doctor for many years.  This doctor not only takes his time and answers any questions you may have, he seems legitimately concerned, and the same can not be said for all too many doctors.  (I happen to be employed by a major SF hospital and would NEVER consider changing my PCP although he is affiliated with a different hospital. )It's unfortunate that the previous review is here.  We are all entitled to our opinions but the previous review is the furthest from the truth.   Dr Vasquez is very accomplished, thorough, informative and personable.

I thought this doctor was cool,but his attitude is no good.I have a good sense of humor,but he has a problem with that.I tried to be friendly,forget it! I sit in the room a he says nothing! total silence.that put up a red flag on this character. i tried to talk.but he was very disrespectful,didn't want to hear me.I'm not stupid.I was born and raised on the east coast,and believe me he has a face of rat! he hardly made eye contact with me,after I told him I have PTSD and other mental issues,he gave me a weird look,and always with a smirk on his face.something was not right him.one night he calls me while I was sleeping,I was under heavy medication and I was on the c-pap machine.I got a rude awakening from him.he was raising his over the phone.here I am just waking very rudely,for some stupid issue with a medical supplier,I asked myself,this man has some serious issues,after all is said and done,I suffered a panic attack,ptsd dis-order kicks in and an asthma attack.it took several day to re-gain composer.I cancelled all appointments with him and changed providers.he knows his medicine,but lacks communication and some sense of humor.if he is reading this go back to school and learn how to be a human being!

This doctor was assigned to me when I first got health insurance, and after one visit I knew he was not the right doc for me. I had numerous questions as I always do with doctors ... usually they are patient and answer my questions, but this man just seemed uncomfortable to be in the same small room with a 20-some yr old female. I was like, really? The office itself felt dingy.... The final icing on the cake was when i asked him if he had heard of "eating right for your blood type." He looked me straight in the eye and stated that he was "pretty conservative" and that made no sense to him. alright, fiiiine.. I did find a new doctor who I am very happy with. I'm sure this man does his job just fine but he was the wrong fit for me. Maybe he prefers male patients?
