It's been over a year since my appointment but I came back to check the reviews and am a bit upset to find my experience was not a unique one. I remember the desk staff and the PA being kind - but my experience with Dr. Krathen was one that has made me wary to approach a dermatology office again. Last year I had a pretty severe reaction to poison ivy - the first time I've reacted to it in my life. Having never had a reaction so widespread and intense before, I booked an appointment because I wanted to rule everything else out. Dr. Krathen was short, rude, and dismissive, and I was made to feel like I was wasting his time for being there. When we determined it was just poison ivy, I then asked about the dark spots my PCP has been expressing concern about, and he was flippant with THAT as well, giving the identified spots less than a minute of his time. I left that office feeling embarrassed, uncared for, and no less scared than when I walked in. Especially for a case where some of the concern required dressing down to examine, I should not have spent that appointment feeling ashamed and like I was an idiot for coming in over something that turned out to be a non-emergency. During an incredibly vulnerable moment, I was met with apathy. You can imagine how uncomfortable that was. I will not be recommending this practice to anyone, and should the day come where I need derm care again, I will actively be looking for other practices. If you cannot treat your patients with the bedside manner you would expect for yourself or a loved one, you should not be practicing.

I have always received excellent care here. I don't know if it has changed other than it is very difficult to get an appointment. May have to look elsewhere. Dr. Krathen has always been pleasant and explains everything. He answers any questions you may have. Perhaps they are over booking?

I cannot recommend Essential Dermatology more highly. My experience was 5-star. Brooke, assisted by Abi, removed a rather large mole on my right side quickly and painlessly in less than an hour. I left feeling relieved and positive about the entire experience. Should a similar issue arise in the future, I would not hesitate to call on Essential Dermatology again.

Staff are very welcoming as I walked in. Wait time was like a minute! Dr Krathan was very nice, I liked his sense of humor, yet he was very professional. Very clean.
