List of Karen Dietrich Scanlan's Reviews
Both myself and a close family member share this exact experience. Dr. Scanlan will NOT attempt to find the source of any mental health instabilities you go to her with. She WILL administer high doses of psychiatric drugs instead of talking to you and figuring out the best solution to your problem. She prescribed me such strong SSRI depression medicine I had an out of body experience for over four hours (because that’s not what I needed!) After switching PCPs, I was referred to a psychologist and found out I have ADHD and am Autistic. Dr. Scanlan did NOT try to figure this out or try to help me find someone who would. I now have a PCP who CARES to put me on the right medicine and work on my long term success. Dr. Scanlan made it clear she did not want to put in that effort. These experiences were a couple of years apart and the most recent was six months ago. If you or your children or loved ones have mental health complications, DO NOT see Dr. Scanlan.
Out of personal experience and the experience of a family member, Dr. Scanlan will recklessly administer strong prescriptions to patients who present with any mental health instabilities without any attempt to truly diagnose the underlying issue(s). If mental health care is important to you, I’d strongly suggest finding another provider.
Dr Karen Scanlan is professional, compassionate, extremely knowledgeable and equally important, a great listener. She has followed my health for many years, is always prompt and prepared when I have an appointment. These are some of the many reasons I am following her to Needham even though it is not as conveniently located as her previous office.
Dr. Scanlan is a wonderful doctor! She is very thorough in making sure everything is up to date! She is kind and compassionate. Just a great female doctor!
I love Dr. Scanlan. She's kind and thorough and I never have to wait for my appointment. If my appointment is at 9:30 she takes me at 9:30 or earlier. Elaine her administrator is phenomenal she is always busy but always takes the time to hear my concerns and to help me every way possible. I think Dr. Scanlan and Elaine are a great team!
Placed call with a medical condition, was told they would call back & never did. What kind of doctor is that?
I have been seeing Dr. Scanlon for a couple of years now and have been disappointed in her and now looking for another PCP. To be fair, she is a good diagnostician and makes referrals to follow up when needed. However, she seems to have a difficult time being a "partner" in decision making and providing information to educate and help concerning medical issues.
Dr. Scanlan has been extremely helpful with my elderly dad who has terminal cancer. I have called her numerous times for various issues and she has been very responsive. She also is very patient and respectful to my dad during all interactions. I think she has great patient care which includes the family. Elaine her assistant is more than amazing in helping any way she can.
I had a horrible experience with her. I had a back pain and went to see her since my own dr was in vacation. She is horrible and rude. Never seen a dr like her in my life. She was rushing.
My wife was not feeling well for months and Dr. Scanlan most recently referred her to a local urologist. In mid December when she still wasn'f feeling good she called and ask for another appointment. The Secretary stated that the Doctor couldn't help her and again referred her to a urologist. In the first week of January after continuing to feel bloated we went to the Emergency Room at a hospital where a very large tumor was found. Subsequently both the surgeon and the oncologist stated that

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
