List of Joseph Kavolus's Reviews
I had a total knee replacement on 3/27 by Dr. Kavolus, I can’t express how happy I am with the results. I should’ve done this a long time ago. I’m already back to my normal range of motion after 6 weeks without anymore pain. I 100% recommend Dr. Kavolus to anyone who’s thinking about getting a knee replacement. Jim Nadeau
Dr. Kavolus did my hip replacement and the experience seemed great, until it dislocated three different times! He did NOT listen to me when I went to him with concerns three months after surgery that something in the hip was slipping. When I dislocated for the first time a month later, he tried to blame it on my anatomy and not his own incompetence. Even gave me all kinds of medical journal write-ups about what he claimed caused the hip surgery to be done incorrectly. I went for second, third, fourth, and fifth opinions after the second dislocation, and, even his fellowship mentor disagreed with this explanation of the problem. Kavolus became very defensive and unkind when I chose a different surgeon to do a revision on the hip. The charm, friendliness, and caring was a sham. Please save yourself the pain and harm of dislocations and chose a different surgeon

I had a TKR (total knee replacement) and I ffin love Dr. Kavoulus and his PA Alexis. I have had an unfortunate amount of experience with Orthopedists and Knee Operations and from my first meeting to 1 month post Op visit I have never felt anything but well cared for. Additionally, the office views the process holistically making sure you have pre-op instructions, post op instructions, meds are called in and ready for you before your operation, coordination with home PT, all of which in my previous experience was on me. As far as outcome, I am astounded at how quickly I was up on two feet, and moving around after that amount of carpentry. The scar is even minimal and the pain that prompted me to get the replacement is gone. And lastly the attitude of 'we're going to get you back to doing all the things you love' is exactly what you want. So if you are looking for skilled surgeon with a PA who is on her game, and quick to respond to any inquires, and an office who has their sh$% squared away then you have found them. Very quick bio, I'm 55, active, and looking forward to getting back to snowboarding, walking the golf course, and maybe, occasionally, still getting a pick up hoop game in and Dr. Kavolous, Alexis, and the entire group has put me on the path to make that possible and more.
I am absolutely thrilled with the results of my partial knee replacement surgery with Dr. Kavolus. I had no complications, and after 9 weeks, I was already back to all the physical activities that I love, including ballroom dancing and light hiking. My two physical therapists, from two different practices, with 50ish-years’ experience between them, each said that I healed better and progressed more quickly in my recovery than any of their other partial-knee patients. There’s a lot of patient dissatisfaction with knee-replacement surgery, in general, out there. Join a knee-replacement Facebook group and you’ll read some terrible personal accounts firsthand. You really don’t have a lot of control over what happens to you, but you do have control over the surgeon you choose to fix it. I was looking for someone who was technically excellent and someone who treated me like a person, not just a diseased knee. After meeting Dr. Kavolus, I actually cancelled my appointment with another prospective surgeon. If you’re reading reviews, you’re probably where I was 4 months ago: in pain and missing out on the things you love to do. The surgery is rough, but thanks to Dr. Kavolus’ approach, I got to the other side very quickly. I like to joke now that the medial side of my knee is the only part of me that feels 20 again.
Six weeks ago I had a total right hip replacement done by Dr. Kavolus. I had osteoarthritis and had exhausted all other avenues! Dr. Kavolus was just what I needed to get my life back on track! He is passionate about his work, professional in his approach, and confident in his ability to get me back to my busy life! His confidence gave me confidence… I am 2 weeks into 3x a week PT and walk up and down stairs, do not use a cane, and have resumed most of my household activities! I look forward to resuming my career as a teacher/ naturalist very soon and … will be turning 70 later this year! Thank you Dr Kavolus for first class care! Do not hesitate to call this wonderful doctor.
Very confident and reassuring. I had total knee replacement. His technique required little pain med ( I realize everyone's pain will vary). The facilities was top notch from equipment to all the staff. My experience could not have been better. A very comprehensive approach which kept me informed ever step of the way which really was a plus for a much more relaxed experience. people and systems in place for all contingencies. Very helpful with the whole process start to finish. I'm having my second knee done shortly and have every confidence it will go as well as the first. Thank you Doctor and all staff!!
Dr. Kavolus was personable and empathetic from the start. He asked me about what was going on with me… what brought me to him. He explained my X-ray and MRI in detail so I could understand my hip issues. He was patient and answered my questions and took his time. I never felt rushed. I ultimately made the decision to have a hip replacement. I was in a lot of pain and my active life style was 0. Dr. Kavolus did not make the decision for surgery FOR me or push me into it. I took time to digest the information, tried an anti inflammation injection ( given by him) to give me relief , and when that failed the second time after 3 more months, I made the call to schedule surgery. The entire surgical team was amazing. From pre op to post op, I was well cared for and had no problems. I just had my month check up with Dr. K and he says I am doing great! I’m so happy I did this.
This was a total knee replacement postoperative visit. I was seen on time. Dr Kavolus examined my knee,. He had images from the just taken X-rays on display. I had a lot of questions about what activities etc I could engage in as well as some concerns over elements of healing. He listened carefully and answered my questions. I was especially pleased that he answered my questions about the pace and substance of re-introducing physical activity.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
