List of Stephen A. Lazarou's Reviews
I have been a patient of Dr Lazarou for about 5 years. I think the negative reviews here are over-stated. The medical staff and Dr. Lazarou himself are top-notch and though it is true the administrative staff is far from perfect they have made much improvement in the last 6 months; certainly not a reason to avoid seeing this group.
I would strongly recommend you go somewhere else. The doctor and PA are alright, but you can get alright anywhere. The rest of the staff is a nightmare to try to work with. Save yourself the headache
It's easy for me to give Dr. Lazarou the highest rating as he has been outstanding in every way. I have been seeing him for several years and have been highly impressed with his competence and demeanor. In fact, he probably saved my life. During a visit a year ago, an ultrasound procedure was performed to assess the size of my prostate. The ultrasound was then moved to my kidneys "just to check," even though I had no indication of a problem. Within 15 minutes, Dr. Lazarou determined that I had a mass on one kidney. He immediately scheduled a CAT Scan for the following day. After it confirmed the mass, he immediately referred me to one of the top kidney surgeons in the country. He did this after-hours on the Friday before the 3-day Labor Day weekend! I am cancer free today.
Dr. Lazarou far exceeded any & all expectations. We had interviewed other surgeons prior to my procedure and we are incredibly happy with our decision. He provides thoughtful input, information, guidance and help answering any concerns & questions. Above and beyond he is a very talented & intelligent surgeon. I will HIGHLY recommend him to anyone inquiring. A true professional with incredible skill. I would add another star (or more) to this rating if I could.
Dr. Lazarou performed a no scalpel, no needle vasectomy in January 2021 and the procedure was surprisingly simple and pain free. The worse part is the anxiety on the way to the appointment, but his suggested process when you arrive is perfect. The procedure itself is quick, painless, and as long as you follow the instructions for post-vasectomy, you'll be fine. I highly recommend Dr. Lazarou for this procedure. I was very happy with the overall experience (yes, even for a vasectomy I can say that). You tend to have a lot of anxiety for a procedure like this and it wasn't necessary, quite a positive experience.
I'm giving it one star. The doctors are 4 stars maybe but the office staff is 1 star. I've been on the phone trying to get a prescription through my insurance which was originally denied. I was sent a paper that they hadn't sent all the information and that they were requesting more info from my doctors. It has been now almost 3 months without the medication. It's never the front offices fault, it is always CVS Specialty, my insurance provider, CVS Pharmacy or my PCP. It's like when they went in to training Lazarou was like "Alright office staff, do absolutely nothing and when asked what the deal is blame it on everyone else but us".
Very professional practice.
Dr is great but office staff not so. Needed blood work and was told to just do it there. Came in and was charged a visit fee which is not correct for blood work. Then sat in an office for 20 minutes waiting to be drawn and the woman comes in and asks me where I want my blood work sent! I don't know, I am a patient! I just got up and left, a wasted visit. Then in the middle of this Pandemic, I missed a scheduled appointment apparently which I did not recall making and was charged a $75 no show fee. An amount much more then my copay would have been. So at this point, I am done, going to have my PCP recommend a new urologist.
I utilized Lazarou Urology Associates as they were conveniently located for my needs, however, I should have considered the negative reviews as they reflected my experience as well.- A particular medication was recommended by the doctor, however, the incorrect medicine was submitted to the pharmacy by the office staff. When I questioned this, the PA over the phone asked me what I wanted rather than considering what the doctor recommended.- I picked up and paid for the incorrect medication. Then I had to pick up and pay for a second incorrect medication. The office staff told me the doctor doesn't speak to patients over the phone when I asked to be able to do so to confirm my questions.- I was told a prescription had been called in to the pharmacy already. When I checked with the pharmacy two days later, they hadn't had communication with the doctor's office.- I was told that I needed to pay for the appointment up front which I have never had to do for a medical appointment. No problem, I did so. Then i was later billed for the appointment again.- I was told that I would be followed up with multiple times without follow through. One time, I was told that the person who was to follow up with me had been fired. I'm not sure what that had to do with the other times.Long story short, Dr. Lazarou seemed nice the one time I saw him, however, the office staff's incompetence in multiple instances overshadowed this greatly.
Dr. Laz and Natalie his PA treated me in Newton Wellsley Hospital, He placed a stint in my ureter. They were great to me. I was having some blood in my urine. I call BCBS 24/7 Nurses line and they Advised me to call Urology or ER. I called Urology for Newton Wellsley, they gave us Dr. Laz on call line, and I spoke Directly to Dr. Laz, He answered my quick question and went about his Sunday. Im glad he was so reach able etc.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
