The Mercy facility and staff themselves are overall top notch. That said, this particular physician has an unsettling, disinterested air about him that did not fit with the rest of the culture at Mercy. Dr. Gabriel Hernandez first presents himself as a kind, caring- albeit young, anesthesiologist, with a sense of humor. During following interactions however, Dr. Hernandez came across as aloof, disinterested in patients' overall wellbeing during their experience, and perhaps most disheartening, condescending. He makes offensive jokes when he thnks patients or others were out of earshot, or worse, when they would not remember what he said or how he made them feel. He downplays others' misfortune and cracks "jokes" in a hurtful, demeaning, pretentious manner. Unfortunately for the kind, devoted medical staff he works closely with, and for his unknowing patients, the prestige and power of his position seem to have overshadowed his ability to show genuine compassion to others.

Dr. Hernandez is amazing! He always listens to our questions and concerns. We love the way he is with our kids and his bedside manner. He is very thorough and knowledgeable.
