Unless you are deathly ill, you will wait 8+ hours if it’s relatively empty. 12+ hours otherwise. No one will care.
About 15 years ago the emergency room of gbmc save my life. I would give them a five out of five , the best possible rating. This past weekend I had to go to the GBMC ER for another complication. I waited nearly seven hours to see the doctor. The intakeStaff and the nurses all had a common attitude that they really didn't care. The second change I saw where the demographics of the people. These were the nurses assistants and intake personnel. I often had the repeat the same information two and three times because they just couldn't get it right. What did not change was the quality of the doctors and professional staff that actually provided the care. So if you don't mind the weight and the careless attitude of the intake , people in nurses until you see the doctor and his attending nurse, Then it is very good. But waiting Nearly seven hours reflects upon the management of g b m c. They need to hire some industrial engineers and streamline the process. They also need to get better quality managers that can route out people who simply don't care in the healthcare field. I wish them all the best, But I will not be back. Thank goodness for the e r doctor because he was outstanding.
Best Hospital around 21208
Worst service ever!!!! So slow and no cares to speed things up. I waited 4 hours for just a X-ray and blood work.
A horribly cruel, abusive, unprofessional, neglectful nurse in the ER named "Genesis" was so abusive, nasty, rough, yelling, demanding, and cruel. Very frightening that she is an ER nurse in a great hospital. All other nurses in the ER were fantastic and kind. She has no compassion or respect for the patients that are put in her care and is deliberately neglectful. Very scary. If a nurse named "Genesis" is assigned to you or your loved ones, call for the Charge Nurse asap to be treated kindly and professionally by any other nurse there. My family, friends, co-workers, associates have been treated at GBMC for decades and have no complaints about any of the other wonderful nurses at GBMC.
The parking garage is a mess. After an appointment that lasted less than one hour I spent almost 10 minutes in line waiting to exit. I was charged $6.00 when there should have been no charge. on another occasion I paid the $6.00 at the kiosk and at the exit there were so many cars the attendant who said her name was Elaine (heavy set young female) just raised the gate for numerous cars to exit..... Then when I mentioned my concern I was called rude. My thought is you pay either way!! How much money has GBMC profited by running this operation in this manner? Just disappointed and will try to find other doctors that do not require me to come to this campus.
I have experience as a hospital social worker and this hospital is horrific. My fiancee's elderly mother was worse coming out than she was going in. She was over-drugged which reduced her to a vegetable for no reason (so she wouldn't be a bother to the staff???). Over-medication (polypharmacy) and renal impairment were presenting problems going in, yet they would not discharge her until she agreed to ADD SEVERAL MORE powerful medications which would have completely shut down her liver and kidneys. The definition of death by medicine. There was NO plan for her discharge during her stay or regard for her condition after release. During her stay she was briefly placed in ICU without any medical justification (this was admitted by one honest attending). Lower staff were ok, but GBMC is the embodiment of the corrupt Corporate-run medical institution that puts profit over patients.
DO NOT GO HERE for true emergency unless you want to play craps with your life. I work in Neuro, and my family member called me with sudden onset extreme pain in her head, starting in one area and spreading throughout the remainder of her head. Change in sensation in her hands. Nausea. Sudden onset that felt like someone was hitting her with a crow bar in her head. She was disoriented and said she couldn’t drive and was afraid she was going to lose consciousness. The call to me before 911 clues you in to mental status at the time. We called ambulance/911, and they insisted they bring her to GB ED bc of the significant stroke/aneurysm symptoms and driver was worried about the 10 additional minutes to Hopkins. Again, a clue to the state the paramedics were observing. Off an ambulance…. And the Dr didn’t even put eyes on her immediately. Apparently they also decided they weren’t going to scan her head at all and to just try pain meds for migraine. Why? bc they thought: if it’s a stroke, she will get worse and lose more function and that’s how we will know if we need to scan her. Not based on her symptoms or the recommended AMA procedure. Not based on the fact that there is family history of stroke and of aneurysms. Based on a someone wanting to take a gamble. Over 95 min in the ED in a bed without a single scan (ie the appropriate recommended medical response for someone with her symptoms and no prior history of migraine… and also the recommended approach if diagnosing a migraine). The first 60 min is the most critical and correlates with survival and long term prognosis for stroke victims. When challenged about this, The Dr said: insurance is mad at us for doing too many scans lately. Really?!?! You are choosing not to treat a person bc you’re afraid of insurance? Or because you’re inept? Or is it both? A scan is less than 500. Costs the hospital less than 200. But they decided to take a gamble for the first 90 min and do NOTHING instead of follow recommended medical procedure. As someone who has worked in and with stroke patients, I’m appalled and plan to report this hospital to the different medical licensing boards. To me, it equates to something much worse/ beyond medical negligence.
I want to say the staff were incredibly sweet and generous to me Anything I needed what care I needed they helped me greatly through my rehydration process I would highly recommend this hospital to anybody looking for A nice staff Nice operations clean and the doctors were very nice extremely wonderful so is the whole staff I cannot recommend it more
I went into the GBMC ER yesterday morning at around 7 or 8 am with a painful egg-sized lump in my neck. My husband and I walked in and they put me in a wheelchair (I'm disabled with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) and immediately brought me to triage and brought back to a bed--no time spent in the waiting room. I couldn't believe it! Matt, my triage nurse, had an excellent, jovial but professional, bedside manner. Andre was my transport--also a gem! Dr. Frankel was kind, knowledgable, and attentive. I felt he listened to my history and concerns and was thoughtful with his assessments. Toni (not sure of her job title) and Symone (who helped with my registration) were warm and kind. My CT tech, Jackie, was super helpful and made sure I was comfortable and prepared. She even saw my cold bare feet and grabbed me some hospital socks (score! I love hospital socks. I think once I have surgery or visit the ERs of all the Baltimore Area hospitals, I get a free sub). However, the ER gold medal absolutely goes to my nurse for the day, Danielle. I never felt ignored or unattended to. She came into my room shortly after I was brought in with a warm blanket. That act alone helped me feel like I was in good hands. She talked me through all of the tests and procedures, gave consistent updates, and listened to my thoughts and concerns. I found her to be incredibly smart, with impressive medical knowledge on par with an NP or PA (not to denigrate RNs, they obviously have significant medical knowledge as well). Her bedside manner made me feel safe in their teams' hands. She was cheerful, clever, funny, warm, attentive, and empathetic. When I ran out of morphine, she made sure to check my pain levels. She came in frequently to check and make sure I was comfortable. When I expressed concern about my thyroid, she ordered additional thyroid testing. When I had questions, she went and found Dr. Frankel to make sure that my questions were adequately answered. I can't speak positively enough about her--and everyone I interacted with. Everyone was kind and caring and it felt authentic. These are people who went into healthcare for the right reasons--to care for people. As someone living with multiple chronic illnesses including a rare disease, ERs can be a nightmare. I've watched multiple physicians in the past google Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in front of me. I've been written off and dismissed, not listened to, ignored, or just not treated holistically with all of my illnesses taken into account. I'm happy to report that I did not have that experience at the GBMC ER. I know that others have had negative experiences here with wait times, etc., but much of that isn't the fault of the GBMC ER staff, but rather, understaffing due to funding cuts, a lack of adequate resources for medical concerns that can't be addressed at an urgent care, and systemic issues with our healthcare system writ large. All I can say is that, based on my experience, I'm grateful for GBMC and every single doctor, nurse, tech, receptionist, and orderly with whom I interacted. Thank you all for your excellent care.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process.
