Lew Schon's Online Review Report Card

I had been working through pain in my ankle for decades. It got to the point that my bones became deformed, and I could barely walk. After researching several doctors and ankle procedures, I decided to go to Dr. Schon and I’m very glad I did. I just had my one-year post-surgical checkup after having a total ankle replacement. And I cannot thank Dr. Schon enough for changing my quality of life. I’m now able to walk, bike, mow the grass, and do many other activities pain-free. It is very rare to find a doctor with expertise, who is personable and truly cares about his patients.

I am 80 years old; Dr. Schon installed a new ankle for me 2 years ago. His expertise as a surgeon and co-inventor of the new ankle replacement is surpassed only by the great human being he is. For several years prior to the surgery performed by Dr. Shon I was unable to walk on the uneven surface of my own front lawn without my ankle turning over. I now walk with ease wherever I choose. He knew I was frightened of surgery; he took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure, answered every question I had, and put me in touch with a nurse whose ankle he had replaced 7 years earlier who spoke glowingly of her experience. As best I know, he has done this procedure over 600 times; people come to him from all over the world. I am indeed blessed to have been on the receiving end of his special skill, I value him as the finest Surgeon/Doctor I have ever known. His human care and kindness are without bound and whom I count as a friend as well as my Doctor. Art Stouffs

After playing professional football in the NFL for 10 years in the 1980’s and suffering numerous ankle sprains, my ankle gradually deteriorated over the ensuing 25 years. The arthritis became so severe that I eventually reached a point where I could no longer walk. Every surgeon I met with recommended an ankle replacement procedure - the question was which surgeon would I choose and what approach would they use? After much research I chose Dr. Lew Schon. I could not be happier with the outcome! He transformed my life and now I lead a active lifestyle. Dr. Schon has patents on a prosthetic that he has developed that is different from what other ankle replacement surgeons use. His surgical techniques are also unique. And he is constantly improving on both surgical technique and the prosthetic. To summarize he is a global leader in ankle replacement surgery. I was walking within three weeks of the surgery and lead a very active life 3 years later. I’ve never look back and have him to thank for it.

After a bad brake/crush of my talus bone on Friday of Memorial Day 2021, Dr. Schon performed emergency surgery at NYU Langone's Orthopedic Care Center in NYC. He came highly recommended, and he certainly is amazing. Not only did he do an excellent job, he is also a class act with a wonderful bedside manner. He's very personable and attentive to his patients, students and staff. He even bought breakfast for everyone working in the OR the morning of my surgery. He's an excellent surgeon (the best of the best), but also cares for his patients and is interested and focused on their full recovery. I received 5 screws and bone graft to repair my break/crush. I'm back doing what I love and very thankful and grateful that I was in the care of Dr. Schon.

Extremely poor experience. I showed up at 1:20 for my initial 1:40 scheduled appointment. After watching numerous other patients who showed up well after me I asked the check in person at 2:35 how much longer it would be and he came back and said at least another 45 minutes Do you think Dr Schon would have waited for me if I was that late. No respect for anyone’s time. Be aware they triple book every appointment.

Dr. Schon was WONDERFUL for my arthritic ankle. I had ankle replacement in Dec. 2021. Everything from diagnosis, paperwork/office staff, medical support staff, and doctor's explanations and consideration of his patient's concerns was top notch. So glad I chose this doctor.

Dr. Schon comes highly regarded from my podiatrist and I had great experience every time I went to see him… I’ve had problems with my left ankle for years, even a recent surgery (not from Schon) and he correctly and conservatively laid out my options in non-pushy/non surgery happy way. He is very knowledgeable and a trustworthy ankle doctor. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a serious ankle problem looked at… Only issue is, because he is so good, he is hard to get an appointment with
