List of Medstar Union Memorial Hospital Emergency Room's Reviews
Fastest, most pleasant ER visit I've ever had. Addressed my concerns, treated me with compassion. Staff was polite, respectful, and still bubbly even though I came in at like 5am. Good people here, truly caring hearts. Did not take more of my time than necessary to help me feel at ease about my condition and give me tools for success moving forward. Absolutely would recommend.
I have had two experiences in this emergency room. The first was unremarkable. My second experience at this emergency department was far more troubling. I presented here complaining of severe chest pain, numbness in my left arm, profuse sweating, and dehydration; and proceeded to spend over an hour begging to be allowed a sip of water, or at least the opportunity to rinse my mouth, if there were concerns about aspiration. Because I asked for this luxury apparently one time too many, I was accused of threatening staff and was myself threatened with being discharged prior to evaluation. When I pushed back on this—because I had done no such thing—I was told that other patients had been acting out that night, the implication being that this was somehow my responsibility. I had witnessed exactly what they were talking about, and my understanding is that that patient had left the building entirely before I was even admitted. I was in tears and convinced I was dying, in the worst pain I have ever experienced, begging for not even a full sip of water from the sink three feet away from the bed, and all these people cared to do was claim that my insistent pleas for help were some kind of coded threat of violence. I recognize that these people have an unenviable job—I also know, however, that being able to distinguish between patients in deep distress and someone making violent threats is the bare minimum of bedside manner which is to be expected in any emergency department. Failing to do so while a patient is writhing in agony from chest pain and is expressing detailed concern about prior medical history is simply unforgivable. I have ended up in several ERs in my lifetime. I have never once been accused of any kind of violence or intimidation until this. It is not in my character. For this to occur at such a vulnerable and urgent time is doubly insulting. I am in no way comfortable returning to this hospital, but I must clarify: this is not due to the specialist, the support staff, and most nurses and other professionals with which I spoke and by whom I was seen, but instead because of a few specific individuals in apparent leadership positions. The people of which I am speaking, I would not trust to take proper care of a goldfish, and while few in number, it just so happened that they in particular appeared to have an outsized impact on the quality of care allowed of a given patient. That is unacceptable. I am an epileptic and have rarely had insurance coverage for more than a few months at a time. I do not have a primary care physician through whom I can obtain preventative or ongoing care. I did not just wake up one day and decide to become an epileptic; and I certainly did not decide to be born into a situation where I am reliant on government assistance well into adulthood. Some of the people working here seem unwilling or unable to understand that this is Baltimore—many people here are in chronic, deep financial distress and have few other options, if any, than to eventually appear in the ER. Some others are perfectly amiable. Hopefully, the next time you are in need of emergency medical services, it will be up to you whether that is a risk you'd like to take. As I was brought in an ambulance, I did not have that luxury. My experiences in this emergency room indicate to me that assumptions are frequently made here about patients and their medical and financial situations, based on race, gender, and other visible characteristics, and that those assumptions will affect the quality of experience which a patient will receive. It does not seem coincidental that there is at least one other negative review posted here from another transgender person who has come to the same conclusion.
Fourth Floor Cardio is really great. Dr. Dibos is no longer there, but he has a short video on YouTube with part of it done in Spanish. He says in the video that hearing that you need heart surgery is traumatic, but they preform heart surgery so often that the surgery has become routine.
Wife brought over from Sinai Emergency for a severe injury. Was there for a week over the holidays . excellent care wonderful people during a very trying time.
All the personnel and HCW here are patient, efficient, compassionate and knowledgeable. It can’t be an easy job, but in spite of that, the folks here go out of their way to treat patients with kindness and attentiveness. Had to go for rabies PEP. The intake was quick and easy. While I was waiting they kept checking in and letting me know they hadn’t forgotten about me. The wait was not even bad but the kept apologizing 🥲. Every provider I interacted with listened and answered my questions thoroughly. I’m so grateful for the excellent quality of care I received here. It was also very impressive to observe how nicely other patients were being treated as well, even though it was very busy!!
Best ER I have ever been too. They are kind and efficient. Staff seem to love people and their job.
I normally hate going to the ER in general cuz it takes so long, but I went here and they helped me pretty quickly with my sprained ankle. They were very caring and I appreciated how nice everyone was.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
