List of University Of Maryland Medical Center Emergency Room's Reviews
Come on now university! This is a very good hospital! One of the best! But DANG!!! Got sent to the ER from the dermatologist at 930 in the morning. Got called in the back, got a IV put in, then sent to a hallway. Sat in these uncomfortable chairs for 10 hours! The nurses come and ask you personal questions in front of every body else in the hallway! For as good as this hospital is, y’all need to do better with the emergency room! This don’t make no sense!!! Y’all have GOT to do better! Not once has anyone came and asked do we need a water or crackers or anything after sitting here this long! That is unacceptable as well!! Now after sitting here 10 hours, we just got sent back to the main ER waiting room! Still no CT done, no pain meds, nothing! Just sitting here with a IV hanging out of the arm!!! YALL NEED TO DO BETTER!!!
After telling them we were leaving due to their callousness, rudeness and lack of overall care. After Being yelled over and completely disrespected We decided to leave. My daughter who was the patient has been sick for weeks now (received inpatient care from another hospital.) I even went back to get the names of the nurses so I could make a formal complaint against them, not once did they say anything other than ignorance. We get home and what do you know…. They left the IV in. My complaints to MDH and JC will be lengthy to say the least.
14 hours of waiting to get a 2 minute scan.. the experts have knowledge but front desk were rude to everyone the entire time and no one working there is trying to offer any good experience
I was in Baltimore for a work conference and had a medical emergency. I went into UMMC ER and received incredibly quick and attentive care! I was very impressed! Thank you UMMC for making this out of towner feel comfortable in an uncomfortable situation!
I was transferred to UMMC emergency from UMBW early Saturday morning arrived approx 8:35am. I was received by the charge nurse and immediately sent to a room. I was back in the ER with complications after major surgery on (7/21/25). The nurses I had where top notch and very attentive. I tried not to.bother them too much. My pain was unbearable and they did a great job getting it under control. My experience was awesome until the next shift came on duty (literally) a 360°. The NP that came in was rude basically telling me I m doing better now after being there sevrals hours and would be discharged soon. Oh really!!! Ok well the reason I'm back in here is because I was discharged 8hrs after having major surgery the reason I was given is because I was tolerating the pain and doing so well. NOT true they didn't have a room to transfer me to after surgery (my Dr said that I would be in the hospital for 3 days). I WAS TOLD THERE ARE MORE PTS IN ER/SAME DAY/& PACU then ADM BEDS can handle. I felt rushed to leave as well as my daughter who was there with me the entire time. I did the best I could at home following Drs orders with half of the meds I should have been given prior to leaving the first time around. BUT of course I continued to feel worse everydqy and had to return on Friday/Sat. I have cancer so my journey is just beginning. I pray that this experience is the worst part of it.
Husband in excruciating pain with a spine injury and can not walk- waiting for over 15 hours and still waiting …. Getting the run around…. Needs MRI- getting shuffled around and moved from hallway to hallway. This cannot be how sick people are treated.
So many truthful terrible reviews! I need to cancel my appointment and find another establishment
I have already reached out to emergency advocate and was expecting call from Jeanine Jordon (Ed manager) have never received a phone call back. I have reached out to a lawyer and they are working with me . I will not stop until Rebecca Simmons is FIRED . Letter I sent and nothing has been done . To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally raise a serious concern regarding the behavior of a healthcare professional in the Emergency Department at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. On May 30, 2025, my husband, Michael Thomas--who previously suffered a stroke in January 2025 and has been diagnosed with severely weakened heart function (approximately 25%)--was scheduled to undergo a cardiomyopathy MRI. During the procedure, he lost consciousness and was transported to the Emergency Department for further evaluation and observation. Due to my husband's cognitive challenges following his stroke, it had been clearly communicated to hospital staff that I, his wife, needed to be kept informed of his medical condition and any decisions being made. He has difficulty processing and remembering critical medical information. Despite this, he was placed alone in a hallway, and I was informed I could not stay with him and had to remain in the general waiting area. When I went back to check on him, I encountered a nurse named Rebecca Simmons. I explained the situation and specifically requested that I be kept updated about his condition and care plan. Ms. Simmons acknowledged this request at the time but did not follow through. Later, after some tests were conducted, my husband called me and informed me that staff were planning to admit him and were considering implanting a defibrillator in the coming days. According to my husband, Ms. Simmons was standing next to him during this call. When he asked her to explain the situation to me directly, she reportedly raised her voice and said, and I quote: "You are a grown ass man, and I don't need to explain anything to anyone else. It's your heart, not mine, so you leave." Shocked and concerned, I immediately returned to the emergency area. My husband was visibly upset and preparing to leave, even though he was not in stable condition. When I asked to speak to the attending physician, Nurse Simmons again approached us with a dismissive attitude, reiterating that he was free to go and that she was not obligated to communicate with me. Her tone was hostile, her behavior unprofessional, and the entire interaction was deeply distressing. Her attitude significantly escalated the situation, placing my husband--who has a fragile cardiac condition--at risk of another stroke or cardiac arrest due to the emotional distress. Ultimately, we made the difficult decision to leave the hospital--not because my husband was well enough to be discharged, but because we feared for his well-being given the environment and treatment he was receiving. I am formally requesting that this matter be investigated thoroughly. I would also like to speak with someone from hospital administration or the patient advocacy department to file a formal complaint against Nurse Rebecca Simmons. Her conduct was not only unacceptable but may have endangered a vulnerable patient. I am also concerned that others may have been subjected to similar treatment. Please advise me on the next steps to ensure that this issue is addressed appropriately and that measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future. Sincerely,
ER is the worst. Stayed in lobby to be triage 6 hours
It was amazing and the staff are completely helpful and kind. I went for my well woman annual and from check in till I left was amazing. They care about my well being and answered all my questions.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
