List of Hylton Mayer Md's Reviews
My primary care provider recommended Dr. Mayer to me as a glaucoma expert, and I'm really glad I went to visit him. Although I don't have a glaucoma diagnosis at this time, I do have some risk factors and suspicious findings, and I wasn't getting straight answers from the optometrist. Everyone at Dr. Mayer's office was very professional, and Dr. Mayer himself has a great bedside manner and is highly knowledgeable. He confirmed a couple things that I thought were significant that the optometrist had discounted, and I feel more confident knowing that he will monitor my condition going forward.
I am a patient of Dr. Mayer but it is IMPOSSIBLE to reach his office. I am on hold for the 5th time. I have waited in the queue and the call just cuts off and I have asked them to call me back with the same results. I need to find another doctor.
I do not want to rate Dr.H. Mayer as a specialist, but he left me alone with my post-operation problems. The other specialist said, that the nerve was cut - a very rare case, which can happened during the cataract operation. As the result I have problems many months later.
I have been a patient of Dr. Mayer's for more then a year and would recommend him to any person looking for a Glaucoma specialist in the metropolitan area. I visited 5 eye doctors because I was told I might have Glaucoma. Could not get answers or specific information about my condition until I visited Dr. Mayer. I had done a google search and found Dr Mayer's information. He was able to answer all my questions and recommend specific care. He recommended surgeries which corrected my specific problems. He has also corrected other dry eye problems. I only wish I had known about him before visiting so many other doctors. I drive 45 minutes to an hour for his care. Definitely worth the travel time to get the best care available.
I think Hylton Mayer is a great ophthalmologist. I went through a string of them with a frightening eye condition before I found him. He's been through and correct with his diagnosis. Sadly, I'm going to have to change practices. The front office staff is the worst I've come across. They've just screwed up an appointment for the third time in 2 1/2 years, once for surgery follow up, which was terrifying. Staff problems are systemic; whether it's the Chevy Chase, a "call center," or downtown, they are awful and rude about it.
Dr. Mayer is an excellent ophthalmologist, specializing in treatment of glaucoma, and one of the kindest medical professionals I have ever dealt with. I have been his patient for the last 4 years and have had experience with him in the office and in the eye surgery center. He is conservative enough in his treatment plans, explains everything thoroughly and inspires a high level of confidence. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Mayer is awesome. He is focused on solving my ocular challenges. His explanations and suggestions are easy to understand and follow. The staff are pleasant and the office is very comfortable.
Both my wife and I have had both eyes operated on for cataracts and the results for both of us has been outstanding. He has an excellent personality and takes the time to make sure his patients feel comfortable with their operation.
Dr. Mayer is a kind, intelligent physician who can explain a complicated condition in a way that a non-medical person can understand. He listened to my concerns (and believe me - I had many) and answered questions thoroughly and honestly. I felt I could trust him. He also communicated well with my primary eye doctor, which I appreciated. Not many people go the extra mile like that these days. Would recommend highly.
Worst Doctor ever! Rude, condescending, and totally full of himself...and frankly he shouldn't be. A graduate of Centre college (? What?), Medical College of Ohio (? Is that even an MD program), and Yale glaucoma fellowship (which is also horrible btw), he has less than impressive credentials. He is NOT the first to offer istent in the Washington DC area as many general ophthalmologists have been offering this for years. He is a very small man with very poor skills. Stay away, I tell you.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
