List of Margaret Sommerville's Reviews
Dr. Sommerville fixed my rosacea. I have been living with it for years! She recommended prescription medications, skincare (wonderful Avene!), BBL laser, and her patience and support were amazing. She really cares about the outcome of the treatment, is direct, friendly, relatable and you feel at hone at her office. I can stop wearing makeup. Thank you!!!!
I can’t thank Dr. Sommerville enough for her patience, dedication and quality care. I have seen her for skin cancer checks and I am very impressed by her thoroughness.
I met Dr. Somerville today for the first time.I was pleasantly surprised. The wait was not long and the front desk staff was friendly. Dr. Somerville was very accommodating and knowledgeable. She was thorough in explaining what my condition was and what should be done to treat it. She was kind and professional. There was no pushing for unnecessary procedures or products. I will go back to see her in 3 weeks and definitely recommend her to my friends.
Dr. Sommerville made me look beautiful for my wedding. I came to her with cystic acne, scars and dark patches all over my face. She gave me the most amazing skincare, prescriptions and had me do 4 laser treatments and a microdermabrasion. I have seen 4 other doctors, spent a lot of money at their offices but she was the best. Very knowledgeable and nice too. You feel very comfortable with her and can ask her anything.
Have been seeing dr. Sommerville for 5 years. She is also treating my father in law and 5 of my friends. She is just great, very relatable and thorough. She does my skin checks, treats my rosacea with prescriptions and lasers. The Botox results are just fantastic and totally natural. I look like myself, only relaxed and younger. I never feel pressured, she explains everything, never gets impatient and I feel like I can truly trust her. She takes insurance for all my skin checks and rosacea visits and her Botox and laser fees are reasonable. Best monthly specials if you sign up for newsletters. Occasionally, she runs behind schedule but I don’t mind, because she does not rush.
I went to see Dr. Sommerville because my friends raved about her. She was very thorough and approachable. My previous dermatologist didn’t bother to explain sun protection to me and was dismissive. Dr. Sommerville and her staff are caring and knowledgeable. I have already recommended this practice to several of my family members. Also, Dr. Sommerville takes insurance unlike my former dermatologist in Chevy Chase who charged me $800. 00 for a 15 minute visit. I will never go to anyone else.
Dr. Margaret Sommerville took care of my daughter’s acne. We have seen 3 other dermatologists. They were quite dismissive and spent maybe 5 minutes with us. Dr. Sommerville is the only one who was compassionate and positive. She made my daughter feel welcome and understood. Her acne is so much better now and her self confidence returned. I can’t thank Dr. Sommerville enough!
I am a longtime former patient of Dr. Sommerville’s (over 8 years). For 6 months I have tried being fit into her schedule, to no avail, for an annual skin check. Most recently, an office assistant told me some days she works from noon to 3pm only, and that Fridays are reserved for cosmetic procedures. It is disappointing to me that she has apparently stopped normal dermatological practices and focuses exclusively on spa-like facial procedures. I do not recommend her as a physician.
I went to Dr. Sommerville for melasma. I'd done a ton of research before my initial consultation and decided a few chemical peels would likely be my best bet. She convinced me to do IPL instead; in retrospect, I believe this is because it was summertime and she didn't want to wait until the winter to get my business (I'm out in the sun a lot, so would have needed to wait until the weather was cooler). I spent over a grand on four IPL treatments, which got rid of one sunspot on my cheek but did virtually nothing for the melasma. By that time it was winter, so I requested a chemical peel. Again, I did a lot of research into the peel I wanted. When I was in the room waiting, however, I realized that the form they had me sign was for a different peel that I hadn't heard of and that wasn't even on their website. I asked about it when Dr. Sommerville came into the room and she said it was a similar peel but better. I trusted her, but it bothered me that they hadn't told me beforehand that they were changing the type of peel. I still wonder if the reason was because they were just out of the other peel or something like that. Finally, I went to another dermatologist to get the chemical peel I wanted originally. She said that IPL is NOT the most effective treatment for melasma; chemical peels and Clear + Bright (which Sommerville doesn't offer) are. I've had two chemical peels at the new derm and have seen substantial improvement (though I recognize that the effects of peels are cumulative and that the first one likely helped, too). Dr. Sommerville's staff is pleasant enough, but they aren't particularly competent. The woman that usually did the prep for my face (for both the IPL treatments and the peel) often missed portions of my face and I would repeatedly have to point it out, which got awkward. It makes me sick that I wasted not only time but well over $1,000 at Dr. Sommerville's office.
Very happy with my visit! My face never looked better. Dr. Sommerville was sweet and caring. She understood my concerns.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
